Jay,
As your Charlesworth & Hartley are from Sheffield neither of them will be any relation to my Charlesworth & Hartley from Leeds.

Margaret,
Sounds like you have some pretty good information. Mine is rather slim. I found a Memorial Card inserted in an old family Bible stating: "In loving remembrance of Charlotte Hartley, Died September 19, 1888. Aged 55 years." Entries in the Family Records section of the Bible show her married to John Hartley, Sr. I also confirmed their connection with a distant cousin. John and Charlotte were 'of Sheffield in Yorkshire' which I forgot to mention in my first reply. I do not have information on where they died or are buried, but their children lived mainly in Chicago, Illinois, USA and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.
Did Hannah and George remain in England throughout their lives?
My wife has posted our family information - either at Ancestry, but maybe at RootsWeb. Her site is under the name Ripples & Waves. It should be easy to locate by searching on Charlesworth or Menges.
I don't have any information on Charlotte's parents or parents for John Hartley; nothing on which to base a firm connection between Hannah and Charlotte. If we keep at it something will surface with time.
Good luck in your research!
Jay Hartley Menges

Hi Jay,
According to the 1881 census my GGG Grandmother Hannah was born in Leeds in 1833, but have no further info' about her birth. She married George Hartley at Leeds Parish Church (St Peter's) in 1860. At the 1881 census they were living at 32 Apple Street, (was off York Rd) Leeds.
George was Christened at Chapel Allerton, Leeds on the 27th March 1831. His parents were George Hartley & Elizabeth. There were six Hartley children still living at home in 1881, ranging in age from 32yrs to 4yrs. My GG grandfather had married about 5 months before the 1881 census.
It is too easy to believe that Charlotte & Hannah were twins & married brothers!! I notice Charlotte & John had twins, and my generation had twins!

No information on Hannah, but interestingly I have a Charlesworth-Hartley connection about that time on which I am also stalled: my gg grandmother Charlotte Charlesworth, b 13 Oct 1833 married John Hartley Sr., b 10 Sep 1832. Their issue was: Fredrick Hartley, b 1858; twins John D. Jr. and Joseph, b 1862 and daughter Eliza, b ~1868. I am looking for Charlotte's parents; also her husband John's.
Any connections or further information would be appreciated.
