Hi all
Some months ago I listed my frustration at not being able to find Walter
Charlesworth's marriage and his family entry in the 1881 census. They were
all there in the 1891 census.
My first hope came when a chance comment in the local Register Office
mentioned a data base of local marriages. I asked for this couple, Walter C.
and Mary Ann Mosley around 1880 in the New Mill area of Huddersfield.
I got a positive response but not much information until I had handed over
my UKP6.50 for a copy of the certificate.
The certificate looked correct, the marriage was on 31 August 1879 at
Cumberworth. Walters father was shown as Ellis Charlesworth where I expected
Elias.
A visit to the Library LHS and a look at the church fiche record confirmed
the certificate and following up on the baptism record baptisms for the
first half of the family. Interestingly baptised in pairs - an economy
measure ?
Elizabeth b1882 and Ellis b 1883 were baptised in Oct 1883 and the abode
given as Scholes, Hepworth (Nr Huddersfield)
I cannot find an entry in the 1881 Census index fiche for WRY. How did they
miss the Census?
An earlier request to the WRY list failed to find them.
I will welcome any clues.
