Hi Wanda
I dont know how these DNA tracing things could really work
My understanding is that DNA changes from Generation to Generation
and though the Y Chromosome determines male sex it does not
replicate exactly the same between father to son. It's my understanding
that only RNA does via the mothers genes passed onto a son and this is
passed down along the female lines which could be be traced. In other
words my mothers RNA is the same as mine, as is
my Grandmothers and her mothers and her mothers etc etc.
I stand to be corrected if there are any Genicists on the list but please
discuss this directly off list as it's not really family history.

Hello Charles descendants,
Someone sent me an email about researching through dna. If you are a
Charles by name, you might be interested. I will be glad to forward the
email to you if you might be. The person who sent it to me is not connected
in the dna project, but is passing the information on.
I descend from a Charles line but since it is through a female, my surname
is something else. The dna testing works best on men as the "Y Chromosome
is passed down from father to son and doesn't change."
My birth name was Stokes so I couldn't not test through the Stokes surname.
One of my father's brothers agreed to have his dna tested and we are hoping
to find a good match soon, so we can find out if we descend from one of two
lines. Another has been eliminated-his markers did not match it.
Each of you, have a Merry Christmas and a great 2008!

Do you perhaps know who Richard's parents were? The Oliver Perry Charles
that I was thinking of was born in 1831 and married in 1855.
If your Olive Edith was born in 1883, mathematically, it is very possible
then that "my" Oliver is her grandfather......
Could also be another branch altogether...but I figured that it was worth the
shot....

Is Olive, by any chance the daughter of OLIVER? (I'm thinking Oliver Perry
Charles, but I wouldn't trust MY memory) who was born, I think, in IL (date is
not handy, so I cannot provide at this time)
I don't have anything on Olive....but Oliver disappeared for parts
unknown....and somewhere along the line I was in touch with someone also n/o
Charles who'd been descended from Oliver ....and she was from Canada

Hi Wanda,
We haven't been in touch, but yes, I would certainly be interested in the dna method of research.
Hope you and your family have a great Christmas.
