2004 GA Jay/Bramlett/Wallis/Wallace
and
Allied Family Reunion
The Hopewell Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Murrayville, Hall Co., GA has been reserved for the 2004 GA Jay/Bramlett/Wallis/Wallace and allied Family Reunion. This event will take place April 23 & 24, 2004.
Shortly after migrating from Warren Co. TN to Hall Co. GA in 1822, David Jay Sr. settled on Hall Co. Land Lot #61 just south of current Murrayville, GA. On June 16, 1837 the Rev. Jay donated 3 acres of his 240+ acre tract to the Methodist Episcopal Church "in consideration of his love for the Church and his desire for its prosperity". This land lot was subsequently sold many times......to son William Jay, neighbor Nathan Bramlett, etc.......always including the 3 acre "Hopewell Meeting House" exclusion until the Church formally acquired the land by recorded deed in 1895.
Today the church and congregation are still vibrant.......with a new Fellowship Hall no less. Additionally, an immaculate small graveyard exists next door with a multitude of Jay and allied family graves.
We have a host of activities planned for the two days. On the 23rd of April, after congregating at the church, we will take a "cemetery tour" from Hall to Lumpkin to Forsyth Counties visiting many family graves. On Saturday the 24th we will spend the day at the church visiting with cousins, sharing pictures and stories. We additionally have some wonderful presentations scheduled by local historians and family researchers. A complete agenda will follow in the next few updates.
If you are researching, related to or allied to the following family lines.....Jay, Bramlett, Wallis, Wallace, Harris, Gamblin, Rutherford, Charles, Mincey, Waters, Castleberry, Martin, Daniel, Banks, Leach, Hise, Lusk, etc. .then this is the event for you.
There will be no charge for the event. Saturday everyone will be ask to bring a covered dish. More details will be posted twice a month from now until reunion time.
Individuals requiring lodging can stay in Gainesville, GA, which is a 15 minute drive from the church. Additionally, Gainesville has an excellent regional genealogy research library that has late evening hours......for the obsessed researcher. The following is a list of Gainesville, GA hotels you may wish to contact. Many of us will stay at the Hampton Inn, as it offers a nice complimentary breakfast along with nice rooms for a reasonable rate.
For more information on the reunion, you may contact Vince King at entech.design(a)verizon.net.
