Steve,
I am looking for information about the ancestry of Isaac Newton Charles who
married Jane Scrim(p)shire. He was supposedly part of the Austin 300
original Anglo settlers of Texas about 1822.
He had several children. Three sons were in Texas with him and supposedly
got land grants. One of those sons was William T. Charles who was born
about 1818 in AR (according to 1850 census); I do not have information on
when he died or where.
William T. Charles had sisters who were living at the end of the 19th
century in "Carolina", according to a family history. William married
first an Elizabeth Boatright, d/o Friend Boatright (s/o Thomas Boatright of
NC and Amy Rushing) and Lydia Sparks. She died about 1854. Their known
children were:
Franklin (Frank) b. abt 1840
Friend b. about 1843
Mary Jane b. 8 April 1844
Isaac b. abt 1846
Walter b. abt 1849
Frances b. abt 1854
I have wondered about the name "Friend" and now that you tie an Isaac
Charles with Nicholites/Quakers I wonder if this Boatright family might
have also been of the same group. I note the Sparks name also as thread...
Frank Charles was my gg-grandfather. He died/disappeared after the birth
of my g-grandmother Laura Charles in Texas in 1867.
Do you have further data on this family?
john.

I'm searching for something quite obscure that may not
really exist, but I'm hoping someone can answer my
question.
My great great grandfather had an older brother named
Voorhees J. Fleming. He died at the age of 1 in 1861.
Voorhees's grandparents were Jonathan and Mary
James-Fleming. I'm 94.3% sure that Voorhees's middle
intial J. stood for James, his grandmother's maiden
name. So I make the assumption that Voorhees is also
a maiden name. Voorhees's own mother's maiden name
was Catharine Charles so I assume that as his middle
name was the maiden name of one grandmother, that his
first name was probably the maiden name of his other
grandmother.
So what I'm looking for I think is a woman with the
last name Voorhees who married someone with the last
name Charles. This marriage would have occured
probably in Ohio and before 1833. I know this is a
terribly small amount of information but I hope
someone can tell me something or at least tell me if
I'm on the right track with the guesses I'm making.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Lena
