Hi!
Laura Charles Johnson here. I've been lurking for a while and I just came across something that I wanted to run by people. I stopped by my local LDS church today and used their Family History Center.. With the help of a very informative woman, I found some interesting facts.
1. There is record of a Hans Michael Carle (original name of Charles) being christened 12/1/1734 in Neuenstein Church, Jagstkreis, Wuerttemberg Germany. This was an Evangelical Lutheran Church.
2. His parents are listed as Johann Albrecht Carle and Anna Barbara Metzger. They were married 11/15/1728
3. This Hans Michael Carle had one sibling (that is listed): Eva Christina Carle, born 5/1/1729.
This information came out of the Church's Christening Book.
I am thrilled to think that this may be the Hans Michael Charles that so many of us have been pursuing. My question for the group is: how do I link this Hans Michael Carle with the Hans Michael Charles in Rowan County, NC? I have the passenger list from his ship entering Philadelphia but nothing from Germany saying that he's emigrating. Any suggestions?
Also, I am about to order 2 books from the Mormons (microfiche, really):
The McCubbins Collection - the part with the Charles Surname
David Isaiah Offman's Genealogical Records of Early German and Other Families on North Carolina.
Has anyone researched these two books?

I am new to the Charles list. I am looking for information on my Charles
family. My Charles family ended up in eastern Kentucky. I would love to
know where they came from and how they got there.
So far I have found George Charles, born about 1891; died 1965 in Pike
County, KY. His Father and mother were: William Thomas Charles and Victoria
Daniels. I don't have any other information on them. George Charles was
married to Laura May.
Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks --- Janet
