Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Thought this might help those of us who are forever trying to deciper what
they are saying.

Hi List Folks,
My CHARLES line originated in South Wales (UK).George & his
sister Clara
emigrated to US ca late 1800's, early 1900's . He settled in Jersey
City, NJ
area
& m
Elizabeth Nickerson (?). They were involved with Methodist
Episcopal
Church. One son (my father) was baptized there. Eliz. had
sister
Catherine m Walter VON
KREBS.They
lived in
New Brunswick, NJ during 1930's.
George & Eliz, found in 1920 NYC Census with 3 sons Edwin
Wesley,
Frederick,
Irving. Irving m Frieda (?). Frederick remained single.
Edwin my father m
Catherine Kirby Bronx NY 1929.
Clara never married to my knowledge. She was a nurse/companion
for many
years. Lived out
her old age in the
Methodist Episcopal Home in NYC. Died in early 1940's. I

I believe that George had possibly a brother in Canada.
During WW II, a
cousin visited us in NYC. He was in the RCAF. Name Bill
Charles. I'm
looking for Welsh & Canadian connections; any connections!
Please, if anyone has any knowledge of this family, I would
love to
hear from you.

Hello,
I am a new subscriber to the list. My line can be traced
through Pennsylvania to Wales. In brief summary, here is
part of what I know about my direct line,
Russell Donald Charles - Harrisburg, Pa 1931 - alive (My father)
Russell Joshua Charles - Harrisburg, Pa 1902 - 1987
Willaim Joshua Charles - Harrisburg, Pa 1882 - ?(late 1930's)
William C. Charles - ? , Pa 1850 - ?(at least 1910)
?? Charles - ?? Wales , UK ??
I have located information about William Joshua's family, both
children and siblings and I think I have located information about
a brother of William C's (David) who also lived and died in Harrisburg.
I have yet to identify William C's father and the other statistics
related to him. From family history and Census information he was
born in Wales with his wife and emigrated to the US. He may have
spent some time up in the mining area of Scranton and Wilks-Barre, Pa.
Family history also has my grandfather (Russell Joshua) finding out
from some relatives who had emigrated to California that the ancestral
property in Wales was about to go back to the crown without claim of
heirs (which is done after 25 years). By the time he had received the
clipping about the estate the time had expired. So if the story is
true, the last known relative in Wales died about 1905. If the story
is true, so far as far as I can tell the only people that make sense
to be the "California relatives" would most likely be descendant from
William Joshua's sisters where their last name would have changed with
marriage.
If any of this information seems familiar to readers of this list I
would be very interested in corresponding with them. I am currently
living in San Diego, Ca. I am also starting to put together a small
database of the Charles family in Pennsylvania. At the moment it is
primarily Social Security Death listings and Census index entries and
notes from pages I have looked up myself. I am willing to do checks
for anyone who would like me to do so.
Thanks,
Richard D. Charles

Hi Nancy:
I have a set of Andrew Charles Jr. and Sr., but
they were born 1835 and 1873.
I have no Andrews back in the 1700s and no
Nelsons at all.
My oldest, confirmed Charles is George Charles
b.1763 NC, d.1859 Pike Co., Ky. George married
Christiana Michael b.abt 1769 Rowan Co., NC,
d.?? in Summer Co., W.Va. They married 1760
in Rowan Co., NC.
George's father is said to be Hans Michael Charles,
b. abt 1730 Germany, d.1813 Orance Co., NC. He
is supposed to be married to Chatherine ?? I
haven't, personally, found any files to back this
up but several people have given me this info.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Glenna

I have hit that infamous "brick wall"! I have been able to trace back to a
Michael Charles Sr. out of Newberry County, SC, approx. mid to late 1700's.
He married a Rachel Hair (whose lineage is already traced!). If anyone knows
of a Michael Charles Sr. or his ancestors, it would be appreciated! Thanks
in advance.
