John Woods, a well-known resident of this city, died this morning at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Daniels, on Water St. He had been sick some time. Mr. Woods was born in Beauharnois, Canada, 71 years ago and the most of his life had been spent in this city. He leaves a large family: Joseph, Henry, John K., Mrs. Joseph Lesperance, Mrs. Charles Daniels, Miss Phenie, Mrs. D.A. Kiah Jr., Levi of Chicago and Charles of Worcester. The funeral will be held from Notre Dame Church Friday morning.

Thomas Woods, one of the pioneers of the ferry dock district, died at his home on N.Water St. Friday morning, aged 66 years. He came here with his parents from Beauharnois, Qiebec at the age of 4 years and has ever since made this place his home. Two years ago, he had a severe attack of pneumonia and suffered a relapse from which he never fully recovered. It finally terminated in dropsy. He was twice married and is survived by Mrs. Woods, four sons: John A., Thomas, Roy,and Edmund and 3 daughters, Mrs. Alice Bastien, Mrs Lizzie Gokey, and Mrs. Arthur DeLaurier.

Wanda J. Charlebois, 1985 recipient of the Harold Cole Annual Memorial Award for outstanding contributions in the alcoholism field, died Saturday (June 21) in Sacramento at age 66.
A Sacramento resident since 1955, she was a retired counselor for the Sacramento County Alcoholism Center.
She is survived by her children, Cherie ATWOOD, David CHARLEBOIS, Wendy ANDERSON and Robin STOVER; a brother, Frank WRIGHT; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Anna Charlebois, 80, retired assembly worker
ATTLEBORO -- Anna M. Charlebois, 80, of South Main Street, a retired assembly worker, died Monday in Sturdy Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Richard Charlebois, to whom she had been married 59 years.
Born in Whitinsville on April 3, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Elzear and Alexina (Blouin) Laferriere. She had resided in Attleboro most of her life, and had attended St. Joseph's School and was a 1940 graduate of Attleboro High School.
Mrs. Charlebois was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Union Prayer of the church.
She was an assembly worker for General Findings Co. and the Leach and Garner Co. for many years, retiring in 1984.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, David Charlebois of Salem, N.H., and Ronald Charlebois of North Attleboro; five brothers, William Laferriere of Tampa, Fla., Wilfred Laferriere of Fort Myers, Fla., Archille Laferriere of Newton, and Paul and Raymond Laferriere, both of Attleboro; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Robert Laferriere.
A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in the Foley-Hathaway Funeral Home, 126 South Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Joseph's Church, 208 South Main St. Burial will take place in St. Stephen's Cemetery.

Passed away early Friday morning at her residence following a brief illness. Age 63 years. Rowena Stewart was born March 7, 1927 in Bay City, and had resided here until moving to Lake in 1982. She had been employed by Bay County for over 20 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church of Clare, Michigan, and a member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband, Roy Charlebois, a son and a daughter, Edward C. Charlebois and Mrs. Louis (Royce) Spens of Ocqueoc, MI; 2 grandchildren Jon P. Spens and Nicolas Spens. She is also survived by two brothers and a sister, Eugene Stewart of Bay City, Roger Stewart of Oregon and Mrs. Lillian Nelson of Hope, Idaho, and two very dear friends, Dan & Vena Pauley. She was predeceased by her sister Elaine Wright several years ago.
Friends may call at the Hyatt-Ewald Funeral Home on Saturday from 7-9 P.M. and on Sunday from 1-5 & 7-9 P.M. A rosary will be recited on Sunday evening at 7:30 P.M. Mr. Charlebois died January 9, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, at 81 years. He was a member of the American Legion of Midland, the Bay City Eagles, the Washington Society in Saginaw & St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Clare. He retired in 1982 from Prestolite after 45 years of service.
He is survived by his daughter Royce (Louis) Spens of Ocqueoc, Michigan. Also surviving is his special friend Irene Lemuel of Bay City, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rowena; his son, Edward; his two brothers: Earl & Alvin; and his two sisters: Gladys Roger & Viola Mullens.
The family will receive visitors at the Hyatt Ewald Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-9 p.m. & on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Funeral services for Joseph F. Charlebois, 67, Hannawa Falls Road, Potsdam, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday (May 10, 1986) at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam with Monsignor William Argy officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam,
The Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Charlebois died Thursday (May 8, 1986) at his home.
Surviving are his wife, Esther; three sons, John and Joseph, both of Potsdam, and Daniel of Colton; two daughters, Mrs. Mari-Jo Harney, Hopkinton, Mass., Mrs. Patricia Braddock, Potsdam; a sister, Mrs. Ellen Brown; and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Charlebois was born in Potsdam on Sept. 17, 1918, son of Francis and Helen Donnelly Charlebois. He was graduated from Norwood High School and later graduated as a registered nurse from Willard State Hospital School of Nursing. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and married Esther M. Grandy on Jan. 25, 1947.
He founded the Potsdam Nursing Home in 1947, which he owned and operated until its sale to Canton-Potsdam Hospitals in 1984.
Mr. Charlebois was a member of St. Mary’s Church, a fellow in American College of Nursing Home Administrators, and a charter member of Potsdam Elks Lodge No. 2074.
Memorial donations can be made to Potsdam Junior Hockey Association, Box 635, Potsdam.

Funeral at Alexandria Friday Largely Attended:

ALEXANDRIA – Striking tribute to the memory of Mrs. J. A. C. Huot well known resident of this area, who died on Tuesday, was paid by a large gathering of relatives and friends at her funeral held here Friday morning.
The funeral service was held in St. Finnan’s Cathedral, which was filled with mourning friends. Burial was afterwards made in St. Finnan’s cemetery.
The funeral cortege was met at the door of the cathedral by the Rev. Charles Gauthier, of Apple Hill. The funeral mass was said by the Rev. Ewen J. Macdonald, M.C., rector of the cathedral, assisted byRev. J. J. Macdonell of Cornwall, as deacon, and Rev. R. Rouleau, as sub-deacon, while Rev. F. Lefebvre of Sacred Heart parish, Alexandria, acted as master of ceremonies. Masses were said at the chancel altars by Rev. Alban Lapointe, of Papineauville, Que., and Rev. J. Poitras, first pastor of the Sacred Heart Church here but now in Montreal. His Excelency Bishop Felix Couturier, O.B.E., officiated at the Libers, assisted by Rev. W. Smith, D.D. Rev. Father Joachim of the Franciscan Order of which Mrs. Huot was a member, conducted the service at the grave.
The following clergy were in the sanctuary: Revs. Corbet MacRae, Lochiel: James Wylie, Cornwall: Adelbert Lalonde, Crysler: Albert Goulet, Cornwall; J. A. Brunelle, Cornwall; Donald A. Kerr, Cornwall; E. Dants, Curry Hill; Auguste Morissey, of the University of Ottawa, and Very Rev. Dean D. A. Campbell, of St. Raphael’s.
The pall-bearers were: J. D. MacRae, M.P., Lionel Chevrier, M.P.: Mayor J. A. Laurin, D. A Macdonald, K.C.; Dr. George Monfette, Montreal and Arcadus Massie, of Alexandria.
The chief mourners were the husband, J. A. C. Huot; her sons, Edward, Romeo and Hildebert, of Alexandria; Louis of Maxville, and Paul, of Ottawa; also her daughters, Mrs. Frank P. Grimes, Ottawa; Mrs. A. B. O’Connor, Pembroke, Mrs. J. E. Laurin, Hawkesbury, and Mrs. B. J. Rouleau, of Cornwall, also her brother, Paul Charlebois, of Alexandria.
A profusion of floral offerings included wreaths from the Alexandria and Maxville high schools.
Attending the funeral from out-of-town were A. B. O’Conner, Pembroke: Dr. B. J. Rouleau, Cornwall; J. E. Laurin, Hawkesbury; Frank P. Grimes, V. G. Grimes, Jean Huot, Col. J. A. Gillies and Mrs. Albertine Lapointe, all of Ottawa; Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Aube, Moose Creek.

Frances Charlebois, 81, of 2360 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors on Monday, June 21 1971. A resident for 27 years formerly from New York City. Survived by daughters Mrs. Gustave (Winifred) Berg, Pawtucket, R.I., Mrs. Melvin (Virginia) Chuven, Denver, Colo.; son Irvin Charlebois, Warwick, R.I.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister Mrs. Lillian Crock, Ft. Lauderdale; brother Harold Potter, Charleston, R.I. Friends may call Wednesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services Thursday 2 p.m. at the Kalis Funeral Home, Rev. Emilien Charlebois, age 74, of 1241 Franklin, passed away at the family home, Friday morning, November 4, following a lingering illness. Mr. Charlebois had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 33 years and was a retired farmer. Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Anna Charlebois; two sons, Mac E. and Antoine, both at home; one daughter, Mrs' Marie Vanderway, of Everett: four grandchildren, Robert, George, James and Doris May Vanderway, all of Everett; three brothers, Marcelin, of Vancouver, B.C. and Joseph and Arthur, both of Montreal, Canada. Many other relatives. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Westford Beck Funeral Home.

Florian (Curly) Charlebois
Florian (Curly) Charlebois of Cornwall died Dec. 5, 1990 at Hotel Dieu Hospital. He was 60.
Mr. Charlebois was born in Navan, Ont. And was a life-long resident of Cornwall. He was the president and founder of 451 Motor Sales and past-district governor of the Richelieu Club of Cornwall.
Survived by his wife, Louise Joncas: one son, Jean Charlebois of Cornwall; three daughters, Anne Charlebois of Dorval, Quebec, Helene (Mrs. Marc Boucher) of Kingston, and Marie (Mrs. John Bazinet) of Cornwall; three brothers, Neil Charlebois of Glen Walter, Laurier and Aurele Charlebois, both of Cornwall; five sisters, Estelle (Mrs. Romeo Serafin) of Ottawa, Marie-Therese (Mrs. Gerard Brazeau) of Lefaivre, Ont. Gisele (Mrs. Gaston Gaudet), Huguette (Mrs. Romeo Roy) and Rev. Sister Carmen Charlebois, all of Cornwall.
Predeceased by his parents, Osias Charlebois and Flore Ida Lalonde; three brothers, Leopold (Leo), Alonzo and Laurier Charlebois.
The service was held Dec. 8, 1990 from Lahaie and Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, East Branch to Nativity Co-Cathedral Church followed by cremation. Rev. Rene Dube of Nativity Co-Cathedral officiated, assisted by Rev. Rheal Duplessis, Rev. Gary Ostler, Rev. Rheal Bisaillon, Rev, Gordon Villeneuve, Rev. Edward Berube, Rev. Pierre Labine, Rev. Mr. Yvon Martin and Rev. Denis Lemieux.
Paulbearers were Christopher Joncas, Pierre Charlebois, Paul Serafin, Richard Charlebois, Michel Roy and Daniel Gaudet.

The former Eva Gertrude Charlebois of Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge, formerly of 645 Gelengarry Blvd, and 315 Gardner Ave; age 68 years. Beloved wife of Laurier Charlebois. Dear mother of Nicole (Mrs. Ubald Rochon) and Louise (Mrs. Pidgeon) both of Cornwall, Marc Charlebois (husband of Lucie Lalonde) of St. Eugene, Ontario and Brigitte (Mrs. Rudy Beaulne) of Kitchener, Ontario. Dear daughter of the late Emile Charlebois and the late Heloria Leroux. Dear sister of Blanche Charlebois and Yvette (Mrs. Claude Prud’homme) both of Cornwall, Laurent Charlebois, Laurette (Mrs. Armand Boisvenue) and (Mrs. Laurent Larocque) all of Alexandria, Armand Charlebois of Rochester, N.Y., Fernand Charlebois of Fort Covington, N.Y., Maurice Charlebois of Brasher Falls, N.Y., Paul Charlebois of Moria, N.Y. and Euclide Charlebois of Victoria, B.C. Funeral Tuesday, September 13, 1994 for Mass of Christian Burial in St. Felix de Valois Church at 12:30.
Interment Notre Dame Cemetery. The family will be in attendance from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday and from 10:30 a.m. until time of Funeral on Tuesday. As expressions of sympathy, Memorial Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
