This biography solved the mystery of who Paul Charlebois' parents were. After the biography, I have added some of my own comments.
PAUL CHARLEBOIS
One of the most conspicuous figures in the past history of Ventura county was the late Paul Charlebois, who passed from the scene of this life’s activities August 24, 1914. He was for many years actively and closely identified with the business interests of this locality and was widely recognized as one on the representative men of his county. Well known as a citizen whose useful career conferred credit upon the community and whose marked abilities and sterling qualities won for him much more than local repute, he held distinctive precedence as one of the most progressive and enterprising men in his locality. He was essentially a man of affairs, and because of his splendid record as a citizen in public and private life he commanded the universal esteem of all who knew him, his death being considered a distinct loss to the community.
Mr. Charlebois was born in Montreal, Canada, on the 8th of December, 1855, and was a son of Paul Charlebois and Emily (Legault) Charlebois. He was of French descent, his paternal grandfather, Joseph Charlebois, having been born in France, whence he was brought to America in his childhood. The family located on the frontier of Canada, far from the more settled and advanced localities, where the father devoted his life to farming pursuits, never leaving that locality and dying there at the age of seventy two years. His wife was a native of Canada, of French-Canadian stock. The subject of this memoir attended the schools of his home neighborhood, but at a tender age he lost his father by death and was compelled by necessity to start out in the world on his own account. Going to Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence county, New York, he secured employment in a mercantile establishment as an errand boy, remaining with that firm for nearly eight years. He then shipped on the great lakes !
as a freight clerk, in which capacity he called at the ports of Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee and Chicago.
In 1869 Mr. Charlebois came to California, by way of the Isthmus of Panama, locating in San Francisco, where he obtained employment as a clerk in a dry goods store. Two years later he came to Ventura and entered the employ of Einstein & Bernheim, with whom he remained for many years, during fifteen years of which time he was in charge of the hardware and grocery departments. He then entered the employ of Leach & Hunt and nine months later bought out his employers. He devoted himself closely to the conduct of this business, in which he met with more than ordinary success, carrying a large stock of hardware, tinware, stoves and farm implements. In August, 1900, he sold that business and in the fall of that year turned his attention to stock raising, acquiring a herd of over five hundred cattle, which he grazed on his fine ranch of six hundred acres, and in this enterprise also he met with well deserved success. He likewise owned a splendidly improved ranch of thirty acres!
, seven miles from Ventura, which was devoted mainly to the raising of walnuts. He was progressive in his methods and gave close attention to all the details of the various interests with which he was connected.
Mr. Charlebois was long an active and influential figure in local public affairs, his ability and sterling integrity being generally recognized and appreciated by his fellow citizens. In 1878 he was elected chairman of the town board, serving in that position for four years, and in 1888 he was chosen treasure of Ventura county, serving four years, to the eminent satisfaction of his constituents. In 1894 he received still further honor at the hands of the people by his election to the office of sheriff, and at the expiration of his first term he was reelected, thus serving two terms. In all these official positions he showed a marked capacity for painstaking and conscientious effort, discharging his duties in a manner that earned for him the unstinted approval and praise of his fellow citizens, regardless of party. Fraternally Mr. Charlebois was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in which he passed through all the chairs, afterwards serving as treasure of t!
he lodge for sixteen years and as district deputy for four years. He also belonged to Santa Barbara Lodge No. 613, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks.
In 1875 Mr. Charlebois was married to Miss Agnes Ayers, who was born in Illinois and in early childhood came across the plains with her parents, who traveled by ox team and covered wagon. Her father became a pioneer settler of Ventura county and here he and his wife died. To Mr. And Mrs. Charlebois were born four daughters, namely: Mrs. Blanche Cerf of Los Angeles; Mrs. Celia Welch of Ventura; Mrs. Emma Tally of Jerome, Arizona; and Mrs. Florence Porter, also of Jerome, Arizona. There were likewise five grandchildren.

My coments:
Paul must have been a colorful character and liked to embelish things because his bio contains some things that stretch the truth.
For one thing, he was older than he claimed to be. Both the census info and his obituary indicated he was born about 1850. His parents had a son named Pierre Paul that was born December 07, 1844. I think this is our Paul. Besides, he couldn't have been born in 1850 because his mother died March 14, 1848 four days after giving birth to his sister Julie Odile Charlebois.
The part about his father dying at an early age is wrong too because his father died April 10, 1884. His father actually married twice more after Paul's mother died and had a total of 18 children between his three wives.
The Bio also says his grandfather, Joseph, was born in France. He was actually born October 19, 1774 in Quebec and was a third generation Charlebois to be born in Quebec. It was actually Joseph's g-grandfather that was born in France
Still it made for some interesting reading and I really appreciate receiving it.

Someone was kind enough to look up Paul's obituary and send it to me.
I am still looking for additional information. Who were his parents and spouse?

OBITUARY

PAUL CHARLEBOIS DEAD; CITY TRUSTEE, PIONEER MERCHANT, PASSES
City Trustee Paul Charlebois passed away suddenly at his home last night at 10:30 o'clock. Though in failing health for months, he had been feeling better of late and last evening was down town mingling with the people after business hours, seemingly even stronger than usual.
When the final attack came, although medical aid was speedily summoned, nothing could be done to relieve him.
In Mr. Charlebois' death, Ventura loses one of her leading citizens - a pioneer who had been identified with the city and county and their interests for forty years or more. He had served the county as sheriff and his home city as trustee, and enjoyed the highest respect and esteem of his fellowman. His passing will be deeply mourned.
Mr. Charlebois was aged 64 years. He is survived by a widow and four daughters, Mrs. Blanche Cerf of Los Angeles, Mrs. Emma Tully of Arizona, Misses Celia and Florence Charlebois of this city.
The grief-stricken family have the sympathy of the entire community in the loss of a devoted husband and father.

FUNERAL OF LATE PAUL CHARLEBOIS TOMORROW MORNING
The funeral of the late Paul Charlebois will occur Wednesday morning, at 10:30 o'clock, and be conducted under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, of which local lodge the deceased had been treasure for twenty years.
Flags hang at half mast over public buildings and several business houses out of respect to the memory of the departed citizen, whose absence from familiar scenes after so many years will be noted with deep regret.
Mr. Charlebois had been a factor in Ventura since 1871, when he arrived here from San Francisco to take charge of the hardware department of the store of Einstein & Bernheim, a prominent pioneer firm: later associating himself with the firm of Leach & Hunt and in 1885 buying the latter business. Since that time, except while serving the county one term as treasure and two terms as sheriff, he has been conducting a hardware store in this city.
While paying strict attention to the maintenance of his business, Mr. Charlebois always found time to do his share in the upbuilding of his home town, serving several terms as city trustee. A life-long Democrat, he was a powerful influence in the party and was filling the position of chairman of the county central committee when called by death.
Thus in businesss, political, fraternal and social life, he played well the part of a good, active and honorable citizen, and in his home, devoted to the welfare and happiness of his loved ones, he was an ideal husband and father.
Does anyone have a record for a Pierre Charlebois, born in 1870 in
Maniwaki, Québec, who married Elizabeth Lalonde on July 8 1890? He died
Jan. 1919. I have descendant info if anyone is interested but am looking
to plug him into the right branch. You can contact me privately.
