Hi,
I did not know you had answered my post!
My husband Richard is a grandson of Marie-Hebert's brother Joseph Hebert\Herbert and his wife Mary Margaret Purcell. They moved to Buffalo, NY in 1910 and changed the name.
I have made progress with my Charland family and knew that Joseph-Andrew had married and had five sons. James Andrew and Robert Joseph are the only one's I have deceased. Which of the brothers do you descend from?
I would love to hear from you, please write if you want to at sherbert52359(a)hotmail.com. I have infor on the Hebert and Thibault lines if you are interested.
Thanks,
Sue Herbert

HI Bob,
Thank you for answering my post! I appreciate the information you sent! I have made headway on my Charland family since I put up the post in 2000.
My husband Richard is a direct descendant of Marie Hebert's brother Joseph Hebert\Herbert and Mary Margaret Purcell through their son Francis Andrew Herbert. The family moved to Buffalo, NY in 1910 and changed the name to Herbert. In 2000, I was having problems with access to Canadian records, so I put up this query.
Joseph Georges Charland and Marie Hebert had 5 children. Joseph Patrice Charland was the oldest born on Sept 3, 1884 in Buckingham, QC. They had Marie Josephine b. Oct 23, 1886 Buckingham, QC d. bef 1891. Joseph-Emile b. March 3, 1888 Hull, Qc d. Jun 23, 1892 Hull, Qc, Joseph-Arthur Oscar b. Sept 12, 1889 Hull, Qc d. Apr 12, 1890 Hull, Qc then they had Joseph-Andrew (Paddy) b. Nov 30, 1891 d. Mar 25, 1942 Ottawa, Ont.
Joseph Patrice Charland married Roseanna Gravel at St. Jean Baptiste, Ottawa, Ont on April 27, 1903 not in Buckingham, !QC. They had 4 children before she died in 1908.
I had found Emile Charland by accident in the Canadian military records first and then confirmed it with the headstone record which listed his date of birth and it matched!
Do you know if Patrice Charland married again? There is a Maurice Charland b. 1917 d. 1970 buried in the Temiskaming Cemetery with him. I can't account for him.
Do you have a wedding date for Emile Charland and Estelle Perrin? I have not been able to find it.
We too have had trouble with finding which Aylmer cemetery the Charland's are buried in. It is possible they are in St Paul's but there is no headstone.
I know there are four Campbell children, Pierre Joseph, yourself (Robert), another son and a daughter.
If you would like to write back, and not in this public forum, my email address is sherbert52359(a)hotmail.com. I have information on the Hebert line and the Thibault's going way back I am willing to share.
Again,
Thanks!
Sue Herbert

Hello to you both.
Thanks for your post on Joseph George Charland. On my mom's side of the family Joseph George Charland (b. 12 May 1856- d. 16 May 1915) and Marie Hébert (b.08 Jan 1868) are my 2nd Great Grandparents. Their son and my 1st Great grandfather Joseph Patrice Charland (b.1885- I believe died in1939) married in 23 Oct 1883 Roseanna Gravelle (b. 02 Apr 1883- d. 22 Jun 1926) at Église St-Grégoire-de-Naziance at Buckingham, Quebec, Canada and they had a son Joseph Emile George Charland (b. 20 Sep 1905- d. 10 Sep 1970) who married Marie Louise Stella PERRIN (b.14 Feb 1906- d. 14 Mar 1981) and they were my Grand Parents. My mother their daughter was Marie Rita Irene CHARLAND (b. 09 Nov 1931-d. 21 Jul 2004) who married on 24 Nov 1951 at North Bay's St. Rita's church Donald Joseph CAMPBELL (b. 29 Apr 1931-d. 25 Jun 2004).
My mom's brothers and sisters are Roland-Amidie-Germain, Jean, Eva, Léona, Patricia, George-Joseph, Marie-Therese, John and Emile.
With respect to Joseph George Charland I found his death certificate (record 010C47) and his death was associated to Endocarditis is an inflammation of the inner layer of the heart, the endocardium, it usually involves the heart valves. . He died 16 May 1915 in Carleton Ontario at the age of 59. The informant on the death certificate was J.A Charland address was given as 59 Duke Street, J.A Charland I assume is Joseph Andrew Charland. They subsequently had his funeral at Paroise St. Jean Baptiste on the 19 of May 1915 and the church record indicates he was buried in Aylmer, Quebec. Witness signatures in the church record were that of his son Patrick Charland and Patrick's father in-law Leon Gravelle.
Trying to find where my 2nd Great grandfather is buried in Aylmer is a chore, I already searched the Bellevue Cemetery on the Aylmer Road but he is not buried there. I checked the list of people buried at St. Paul's Cemetery and he is not buried there. Presently I'm researching whether there was another Roman Catholic Cemetery for the French in Aylmer at the time.
If you have any information you can fill in it would be much appreciated meanwhile I hope this information I provide helps you out some in your own family research.
Regards...Bob
