PRESQUE ISLE, Maine - Leopold Charette, 78, passed away Wednesday April 21, 2010, at the Maine Veterans Home, Caribou, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Leopold was born May 29, 1931, in Fort Kent, the son of Henry and Julie (Dufour) Charette. He grew up in Fort Kent attending local schools, and later served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a mechanic for several years, mostly with Freeman Motors, where he was employed for 35 years. Leopold loved to play bingo, work on puzzles, play poker and listen to French Canadian country western music. His most enjoyable moments were when he was with his family enjoying each others company. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jeannine Charette of Presque Isle; two daughters, Leola Bouchard and her husband, Clovis, of St. Francis, New Brunswick, and Diane Doustou and her husband, Ron, of Presque Isle; a sister, Leona Bard of Broadbook, Conn.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.!
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Dana, in May 2009; as well as several brothers and sisters. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Ray Morency, celebrant. A committal with military honors will take place at North Main Street Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle. A reception will be held after the committal at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Those who wish may make donations in Leopold's memory to the American Cancer Society , New England Division Inc., 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. CARIBOU, Maine - Camille Charette, 88, died April 8, 2010, at the Maine Veterans Home, Caribou. He was born March 24, 1922, in Fort Kent, son of the late Alfonse and Catherine (Blanchette) Charette. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre and would tell everyone he was a "D-Day Vet." He married Carmen Devoe and was employed by several area potato growers for many years. Mr. Charette was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters, Lizzie, Joe, Patrick, Romeo, Rita, Lewis and Dave. Surviving in addition to his loving and devoted wife of more than 68 years, Carmen, of Caribou, are his eight children, Frieda Dickinson and her husband, David, of Ashland, Carl Charette and his wife, Gloria, of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Claude Charette and his wife, Cindy, of Pittsfield, N.H., Dianne Young and her husband, John, of Caribou, Glenn Charette and his wife, Marcia Keefe, of Alfred, Camille Doebener and her husband, Peter, of Washburn, Catherine Charette and her!
husband, Steffan Duplessie, of Dexter and James Charette and his wife, Allyson Humphry, of Portland; three sisters, Theresa Pelletier and Cora Lawless, both of Connecticut and Lucille Roy of Fort Kent; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of service 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with Father Jean-Paul Labrie officiating, assisted by Mr. Charette's grandson, the Rev. Stephen Young. Interment with military honors will be at New Holy Rosary Cemetery.
