John Chapple is also the father of the William Chapple who came to America. There have also been many John Chapples over the years and I'm not sure yet which one Mr. Breen is looking for.
But I remember you, Pam from a few years back. We know your John as James Chapple. He did marry America Chapple and had a son Edwin who was born in 1883 and died in 1979. My father Wm. B. Chapple, Jr., born 1921 died 2000 was the Great Grandson of William from Meavy, Devon and called their son, "Uncle Ted" and so did we. But Ted's father, James (who you refer to as John) was acutally my father's Great Uncle and America his Great Aunt by marriage. She died in 1951. There were so many Chapples when my father was young and when I was young that it was hard to keep track of how we were all related to each other. So we younger ones called the older ones Aunt or Uncle because our other young relatives did...only they probably were really nieces and nephews! There were many relatives we called Aunt/Uncle who were in actuality "cousins". At the age of 5 my father had cousins who were in their 70's & 80's!
To back track a little, John W. Chapple born 1856 died 1931 was the oldest son of William from Meavy, Devon. He was my father's Grandfather.
William from Meavy came to America with the Dawe family who were relatives. Later, his brothers Richard & James also came. But no John unless James' first or middle name was John. Richard died in 1860 and is buried on the farm. America and "Uncle Ted" are buried at Mt. Olivet but I don't know where James is. I took photos of the tomb stones the last time I was home but haven't gotten them developed but I will do that now to see how I missed him.
James (John?) is not listed on Chapple Cemetery list but he owned a farm were Uncle Ted lived until he passed in 1979 and there could have been a cemetery there. Most of the bodies in the Chapple Cemetery were moved before the elder William died though some remain.
James lived with William and Elizabeth and when William joined the 13th Kansas Volunteers he stayed and ran the farm for him. I believe that James and John are one and the same person. The Chapples used the same names over and over and it does get confusing but I think we are talking about the same man. My understanding is William was the oldest, James next and then Richard the youngest of the three. Richard died within a short time and I have been unable to find out what he died of or why his body was left on the farm when the others were moved. A mystery that haunts me still.
I am sending you the link below to the cemeteries in Doniphan County open to the Chapple names. At the bottom you and see the Chapple Cemetery listed but it is not complete, there are more than are named. Hope this will help. I have more and will get it to you as I find it. You may have more info than I do already!! I believe that we have friends that have shared info in the past who are very dear people and family.

Good to hear from you and I will keep in touch regarding Mr. Breen who is a descendent of William's youngest son Edwin A. Chapple.

Hi
When you are asking about John Chapple I am assuming you mean John the brother of William who was born in Meavy Devon and emigrated C1850. John lived with William and his wife Elizabeth during the civil war, married a girl called America and then promptly disappeared. I have been trying for find out what happened to him for a number of years but so far no luck. I have passed a lot of information about the family in England to the people on this message board and I think that the person you are communicating with has this info - re John's date of birth and his parents etc. If not let me know and I can fill you in
Pam (England)

John was my great grandfather. One of his sons my grandfather. This John W. was the son of William, oldest son & Edwin A., yougest son. But there are several Johns.
Need more specific date of birth or relationship to Edwin A.or William if possible.
Also because many family members are still alive I would respectfully ask you to get off this public message board and contact me directly at plcaseychapple(a)msn.com
Now that we have established a definite connection we need to get off the public message board to keep info private.
Thank you. Casey
