Any information on William Chapple b. 1836 and John Chapple b.1838. They were both born at Compton Dando but we lose all trace of them after the 1851 census. They were two sons of George Chapple (1807-1869) and Ann nee Endicott (1813-1891).
George and Ann Chapple had 8 other children whom we have traced. It seems William and John may have emigrated at the same time, but where to? Any information would be much appreciated.

Richard,
Please contact me directly. I'd like to share more on my lines. I've learned that Chittlehampton is very small and I suspect that our HILL and CHAPPLE lines are connected, but can't summarize it briefly here. I know that my families were in Ontario, Canada by the 1851 census. My ancestor is Thomas HILL who, on the record for a 2nd marriage, noted his parents as William and Elizabeth HILL. I do not have Elizabeth's surname. Thomas' brother, Hugh b. c1824 m. Jane L. CHAPPLE bet 1852-54 in Ontario, Canada. Jane was the dau of John CHAPPLE c1806 and Elizabeth LUXTON b. c1811. John CHAPPLE was the son of John CHAPPLE b. c1782, Crediton and wife Susanna b. c1779 (surname unknown)

Marilyn - Do you have info on Mary Chapple, born 28 April 1797 Bishops Nympton? I believe her parents may have been Thomas Chapple b. 5 Jan 1774 and Mary? Mary Chapple married William Hill born abt 1798 Ashreigney. They farmed at Charles,Brayford, near Chittlehampton. Mary Chapple Hill is in the 1881 census, age 83, living with son William Hill. Her daughter, Sarah Hill b. 1817 married Francis C. Skinner b. 1818 at Charles, Devon - both are my gggrandparents. I am researching the Hill, Chapple, Skinner, Barrow families of Chittlehampton, Charles, Brayford, Burrington. Thanks

What I do know about this guy is that his actual name which keeps changing in different censuss is Leonard Charles Frederick Chapple and he was born on July 1st, 1890 in Norwich Norfolk England. He was a printer by trade and I actually have his union cards because I am the last living Chapple male other then my son. You can see his whole physical under attestation papers for the first world war under the Canadian Archive site. He came over to Canada on June 17th 1913 on the ship the Teutonic . He settled in Toronto were he had two brothers Sidney and Walter living. He had a sister named Alice which supposedly came over in the same year. He joined up in the Candian overseas expeditonary force on August 21 1916. Was sent over and killed in France on August 18 1917. If you want to see the rememberance to him look at http://www/cwgc.org. Where was your Charles Frederick Chapple and Ruth marion Grinnell married or were they married? Was it in Canada or the united State!
s? It looks like according to his union cards he was working in Toronto pretty much up to enlisting. When was Iona born? and where? This is quite interesting. I acutally have a picture of him and if you had one also maybe we could compare or at least a picture of Iona. I have done a lot of work on this side so it would be great if we were connected so I could share what I have found with you.
sincerely George Chapple

Sounds like it could possibly be. All I know is that he lived in Canada when he married my great grandmother and they had one child - Iona - who was my grandmother. He and his wife split up and that is where it gets fuzzy. Some family say he went to prison, others say he left her, but no one knows for sure. Did this uncle of your have children?

Hello,
I have an Elizabeth Jane R Chapple (1873-1960) in my tree (my great grandmother) she is from the Barnstaple Chapple family.
Maybe she's a little old to be your grandmother's cousin, and I haven't come across any Butler or Phillips for any of her aunts (her mother was Mary Richards b 1845). I'm still working through the Chapples (mine seem to be mostly in the Barnstaple and Bideford areas), if I come across anything more likely, will let you know.

I recently discovered the query by dpayne and yourself regarding the Subject line.
My ggrandfather was Lucy's brother, (Edward Pitts) who emigrated to Canada with Lucy, Jonathan and family, arriving Quebec City May 9, 1880 on the SS Polynesian from Liverpool. The two families were neighbours in Paris, Ontario thereafter.
I have information on Lucy's line, and am interested in getting more on the Chapple line.
I'm showing Jonathan and Lucy as having 10 children, (8 born in England and 2 in Canada). Of their surviving children:
George m. Ruth Wright (to Wisconsin?)
Lucy Pitts Chapple m. Robert Turner Inksater
Gertrude m. George Richmond Tate
Franklin m. Mary Caroline Jefferson
Victor m. Gertrude? L. Sherk (to Sudbury?)
Clement E. m. A. M. Boyle
Annie m. J. Carnie
My information is spotty thereafter, so would appreciate any additional information on the Chapple line, and would be glad to assist on the Pitts connection.
