Hi Marilyn
The only John I am aware of is a John Chapple b 12 Aug 1792 in St David, Exeter, Devon. He married Ann Jeffery 28 Feb 1814 in Kenton, Devon. From my database it seems the Chapples traditionally copied christian names through the generation so was wondering - although I have no Chapples in Bishops Nympton there are many from the surrounding area i.e. Exeter, Kenton, Buckland Filleigh, I have many Thomas's and I have an Elizabeth Chapple b 26 Mar 1829 who married a James Chapple 22 Jun 1846 and lived and died in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin - James Chapple was the son of John Chapple and Ann Jeffery. Sorry - I am "rattling on" a bit...
I have another John Chapple b 16 JUN 1779 in Kenton whose parents were John Chapple b 1742 and Dorothy Sarel b 14 MAY Alphington.
I am sure that your bunch are from the same bunch as mine as all of the christian (or first) names match all the way down the generations - it is just finding the link.
My link to the Chapples are my ancestor William Davey b 1795 married Francis Chapple b 1798.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Julie

I'm wondering if we have the same John and Mary. I've John CHAPPLE b. c1771, Bishops Nympton, Devon married Mary (surname unknown) b. c1781, Chittlehampton; both are on 1851 census. Known children b. Chittlehampton: John b. c1806 m c1829 Elizabeth LUXTON; Sarah b. c1807; Mary b. c1811; Edmund b. c1817. Children of John and Elizabeth (LUXTON) CHAPPLE b. Chittlehampton were: John c1830, Jane L b. 26 Apr 1833, James c1835, Lydia c1838 and Mary Luxton Chapple b. c1841.
Jane L. CHAPPLE m. Hugh HILL, son of William HILL and Elizabeth (surname unknown). I'm especially interested in this HILL family. The HILLs (with Jane Chapple) settled in Hullett, Huron Co, Ontario, Canada. Siblings of Hugh HILL were Mary and Stephen b. c1807, Judith b. c1811, Thomas b. c1816 and Elizabeth b. c1820 - all probably b. Chittlehampton.
