Updating my original posting, which was the start of this particular thread. My husband and I both have CHAPPLEs in our family trees, though his CHAPPLEs were from Devon while mine were from Somerset.
My husband's CHAPPLE ancestry has been traced back to the John CHAPPLE who married Elizabeth Oldry CAMPION on 17th Nov 1819 at Holy Trinity, Exeter, Devon. John CHAPPLE died sometime between 1841 and 1851. From his daughters' marriage certificates and the 1841 census, we know that he was a Waiter.
The 1841 census (at which time he and his family were living at St Sidwells, Exeter) gives his age as 40, though ages in 1841 were rounded down to the nearest five years, so he could have been born any time between circa 1796 and 1801. He may have been the John CHAPPLE who was baptised 1 Jul 1796, Saint Edmunds, Exeter, Devon, son of John CHAPPLE and Mary JENKINS, who were married on 16 Nov 1794, Saint Mary Steps, Exeter, Devon.
John CHAPPLE and Elizabeth Oldry CAMPION had at least four children:
1. Maria Campion CHAPPLE, bap 27th Sep 1820 at St Mary Major, Exeter; died 1912, Wandsworth, London. Maria married John KELLOW on 25th Aug 1841 at St Sidwell, Exeter. Witnesses: John CHAPPLE and Sarah MEADON.
2. Emma CHAPPLE, bap 19 Mar 1824, St Peter's Cathedral, Exeter. Emma married James Manley PRISTON in 1848 at Exeter. They had at least seven children. Emma ultimately lived in London and died after 1901.
3. Elizabeth Mary Wills CHAPPLE, bap 1st June 1826 at St Mary Major, Exeter.
4. Catherine "Kitty" CHAPPLE, born circa 1833, Exeter. Catherine married George WARD on 15 Mar 1866 at Wroxton, Oxfordshire. Witnesses: Eleanor KELLOW, Jane VINCENT and L.R. TAWNEY. Catherine and George had at least three children and lived in Oxford.
My own CHAPPLE ancestry dates back to my 3G Grandmother, Jane CHAPPLE or CHAPLE. She was born circa 1800 at (I believe) Stawell, Somerset. She married Charles WRIDE on 8th Dec 1831 at East Brent, Somerset, though they later lived at Wedmore, Somerset. Jane died at Wedmore on 4th Jan 1872, cause of death: " Ulceration of the Uterus". Jane [CHAPLE] WRIDE was buried at Wedmore, Somerset on 7 Oct 1855, "age 54".
Best wishes,
Sue

Your welcome Rosemary
and of course if I do then that goes without saying...we're all in this together trying to achieve the same thing - so of course.
Let me know how you get on - you never know there may be a link - probably through brothers, sisters or cousins - they were extremely prolific the Chapples... and resilient!
Regards
Julie (Brough/Davey/Chapple/Courtenay)

Hi - sorry it has taken so long to answer your enquiry.
I have a couple of Elizabeth Chapples on my list:-
Elizabeth Chapple b 6 JUN 1775 in Kenton Devon and died between 1825-1850. Married James Lond 25 JAN 1824 St. David, Exeter Devon. He was born Bet. 1770-1780.
Elizabeth Chapple b 26 MAR 1829 in Guilford Street, Russel Square, London and died 6 JAN 1914 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac Co., Wisconsin, U.S.A. She married James Chapple 22 Jun 1846 in St. John the Evangelist, Waterloo Road, London son of John Chapple and Ann Jeffery. He was born 3 MAY 1823 in Exeter, Devon, England and died 18 Sep 1861 in Eden Township, Fond du Lac Co., Wisconsin U.S.A.
All that I can suggest is to follow the families back by birth certificates so that maiden names are traced and work backwards from the present day - that is how I did mine.
Hope this helps
Regards
Julie

I am trying to trace anyone in the Chapple family of Samuel and Elizabeth E M who were the parents of Rose Emily Chapple and who married my Gt Gt Uncle George Richard Bellamy of Lostwithiel, Cornwall. They married in 1873 at Stoke Damerel, Devon, his Occupation was as a Tin Mine Accountant in St Austell, Cornwall. Any information on Rose's siblings and her own children and her husband would be greatly appreciated.
