Hi Kim: My name is Janice MacMillan. I am the daughter of Pearl Chapple. John Chapple is her great grandfather. He was born in Tetcott, England. He married Joan Grey of Cornwall and came to Canada to the southern Ontario region near Dresden and Wallaceburg. He and Joan had 4 sons and 4 daughters, one of who was Elizabeth. From what I can tell of my records, a couple of the children went to the eastern seaboardJohn was born in 1822 and died 1898, Joan was born 1819 and died 1882. Does this match your information? I have the names of brothers and sisters if you wish to investigate further.

Many thanks for the Ancestry link.
It's up to you of course, but the information in this is of limited value from a genealogy standpoint. No source is quoted for any of the names or dates and as there were no Parish Registers then it really is a mystery how this could be produced.
The rest of the quote is the sort of generalsisation that is usually produced by companies trying to sell family coats of arms etc and is totally worthless.

If you go onto Ancestry Dr Chapple ID no 106226 Mr John Chapple Birth ABT. 1475 Chittlehampton Devon England, and click on Individual there is a note that reads:- I quote "Note: Our Chapple family from Exeter originated in the village of Chittlehampton in North Devon, England. They were all very much involved in the wool trade, and Exeter established, evidence has been produced by members of the Chappell family who were, in 1330, custodians of the church and the occupiers of the glebe lands, and had been for over 100 years. This takes us back to 1230 and the surname came from this building which was then a chapel before becoming a church when the parish was first formed. There was a William Atte Chappel around this time which was likely our ancestor and the originator of the Chapple surname.
I hope that this information assists you in your search Dr Chapple.
Kind regards
Julie

I am a subscriber to Ancestry.co.uk and have access to all their records. There are no parish records pre 1575 for Chittlehampton.
How can you trace your line back to 1200 and state that all Chapples originated in Chittlehampton? I have no doubt they originated in Devon but there is no evidence as to the exact location.

I went on to an Ancestry site in England where they have Genealogists tracing parish records and investigating them - if you would also like to trace the Chapple family which are my ancestors through Frances Chapple who was born 1798 in Kenton Devon England and who married William Davey born 1795 in Exeter Devon England - I have also visited Chittlehampton, Alphington and Exeter where the rest of the Chapples in my family were living. If you would like to investigate this please feel free to do so by visiting "Ancestry.co.uk" - Happy Hunting! If there is anything else I can help you with then please feel free to contact me again. kind Regards Julie

I'd be interested to hear how you can be sure where the CHAPPLEs originated and how you can trace your line back to 1200 when Parish Registers don't exist before about 1575.

The Chapples of Devon (Alphington) my branch - I am a Davey but William Davey b1795 married Frances Chapple - the Chapples originate from a village called Chittlehampton in Devon where the church before it was a church was a Chapple in the 12th century which is where that surname originated.
