Thank you so much for the info regarding the connection between the two families. We would love to have any info you would like to share about our families. Ed has a list and a map we made years ago of the Dawe's graves. There are more than 1 or 2 buried there. Some years ago the creek flooded and it caused great damage to the area. And over the years the creek has actually changed it's course. I will get the names from Ed and we will email you the map. I checked and in Mt.Olive Cemetary there are many Dawes but I see no Walter or Elizabeth. Have you been the the Doniphan County Cemetaries site? I have to get to it in a tricky way but if you want to know I will tell you. It shows all the cemetaries in Doniphan County and even shows the Chapple/Dawe Cemetary.
I believe William ended up with the Dawe farm. I have a Plat of D.County from 1882 and it shows the farms. They touch together at the points and I have always wondered why it was laid out so oddly. I am sure now that half of the Chapple farm is the Dawe farm.
It is so sad that so many of one family died during the Civil War. Do you know what they died of? Did John Dawe come home sick from the war? They came here together to make a better life and they suffered so much.
At one time there were more Chapples buried on the farm but most of them were move to Mt. Olive. All of the children who died were moved. The only one I know is still up there is Richard who died in 1860.
Thanks again for the explanation of the connection between our families. It would be nice if we could all go out and have dinner and visit one day soon. Do you have family here?
I have one son who is 35 years old and he has three children. Ed has four childern, Debbie has 2 + 2 grandchildren, Linda has 1 daughter and my brother Bill who died last October has 2 children and 4 grandchildren. On Christmas Eve we have a big get together and there are about 35 of us from four generations. We miss Dad and Bill very much. It's not the same without them.
Any other info you would like to share would be greatly appreciated. My email is working fine now if you want to email me.
Thanks again!

Casey: The Chapple And Dawe families from Meavy Parish, Devon, England were related in the following way: William Chapple was the son of John Chapple and Mary Atwill.John Chapple was the son of Richard Chapple and Mary Willcocks.Mary Willcocks was the older sister of Elizabeth Willcocks who married William Dawe. Elizabeth Willcocks and William Dawe were the parents of Walter Dawe. Walter Dawe married Elizabeth Foote. Walter Dawe and Elizabeth Foote were the parents of Elizabeth Dawe, my great grandmother. Therefore, Walter Dawe and John Chapple were first cousins and William Chapple and Elizabeth Dawe were second cousins. My calculations indicate you and I are fifth cousins, once removed. Your father and I were fifth cousins and of the same generation. I had a nice conversation with your father in about 1996 or 1997 and knew of his passing. I met Richard Cheney and his wife Donna last April when I was in Troy visiting relatives and have exchanged data with them. Nice people !
! I spoke with Tom Chapple several years ago while researching our families and have long been aware of the old Chapple cemetery on the Chapple farm. It's in pretty sad shape. The only Dawe tombstone I know of in the Chapple cemetery is one for John F. Dawe, my great grand uncle and a Civil War veteran who was a POW with your great great grandfather William in Texas. He owned the farm across the road from William. Unfortunately, he didn't live long after returning from his imprisonment. I believe Walter Dawe and his wife Elizabeth along with their son William were also buried in the Chapple cemetery. They all died during the Civil War years but, at this late date there's really no proof I've found to verify same. I have more info on the Atwill, Willcocks and Dawe families if you are interested. Call me ! I'm in the Denver phone book. Charles R Decker

HI Casey, Did you get my e-mail? I plan to put a couple of photos in the mail tomorrow, one of Tom and my wife Donna and one of Ednabel and Donna. I just checked and Chuck Decker is from Golden, not Aurora. I don't think the Dawes and Chapples are related, just very close friends. I beleive William and Mr. Dawe served in the civil war togeather. He refered to the Dawes many times in the civil war letters (copies) we have from William to Lizzie. Tom took us to the Chapple cemetery this spring. Most of the stones are down and it's badly over grown.
More with the photos, Richard

I am the gg granddaughter of William Chapple. We have visited the graves of your ancestors many times in the Chapple Cemetary on the Chapple farm. There are many of them buried in Mt. Olive Cemetary in Troy. In what way were the Dawes related to the Chapples. We know they were close but do not know how they were related. Please share this with us when you have time.
My brother has the names on the Dawes' graves. At least the ones that could be read.
Do you know our cousin Tom Chapple? He still operates the Chapple farm.

Think I just lost a message I was sending you so here we go again. John Chapple was Baptised at Shaugh 5 April 1781. He was buried at Sheepstor 3 April 1877 at the grand old age of 96. He married Ann Atwill (from the parish register) Meavy 19 july 1810. Shaugh and Meavy are two villages on the edge of Dartmoor. I visit them often since I only live 10 miles away. My connection is that John had a brother named Richard born Shaugh 1782. Richard had a daughter named Fanny who became my 4 times gt grandmother when she married Robert Pope.......you are a distant relative....a first in five years of research......Lin

This is wonderful!! We are very interested in any info from England. We were just beginning that phase of the process.
We are especially interested in John and Anna(Atwill or Atwell) Chapple. He is the father of my gg grandfather William who was born June 14, 1824 in Meavy, Devonshire. We recently came into some documents that state that William's father fought in the American Revolutionary War and in the War of 1812, but we know he died in England. Do you know anything about this? We would very much like to have any info you have on all relatives from England. Is that possible? How are you related to William? I am very excited to know. Please respond regarding this info. Thank you very much!!

As we understand it, Richard was the brother of William and James. He was born in 1833 and died in 1860. He is buried in the Chapple Cemetary on the Chapple Farm. We do not know about a brother named John. We know that John was the father of William. He was married to Anna Atwill. (on some documents it is spelled Atwell)

Wow! I had no idea that any of their childre would still be alive! And right in Leavenworth. My mother was born in Leavenworth and so was I. How old is Ednabel? Did she have children? We are talking about Edwin Atwill Chapple 1877-1951..he was married to Sarah Belle, we know. Wow! The Chapples tend to use the same names over and over and it does get confusing. I would love to get in touch with her.
We will all be in Troy in April for my Aunt Betty's 80th birthday. She is my father's sister. Betty Klaus. She lives on State St. My brother Ed & I would love to meet you. I would also love any info you have on the Chapples in England. We have been trying to figure out how my GGGrandfather's father managed to be in the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 and managed to die in England. His name was John and he was married to Anna Atwill. The will blow my brother Ed away! We have been on the phone every night until the wee hours trying to get to the next level. Tommy sent us some docs just last week that said William's father fought hese wars. We were always told of the Virginia connection but getting the info from Tommy really got us going. Please send me anything you have regarding the England info. My address is 830 Nome Street, Aurora, Co 80010. Or you can fax it to 303-367-1196. Don't email it because I am having issues with attachments in my email. Wow!
!! Thank you so much for contacting me. Please let me know about the info. I there anything in it about this new info regarding John's participation in these wars? We really thought that the first Kansas Chapple was the first generation to arrive in America. We are also looking for info on James who was Williams brother. He was married to America Chapple. He is not listed as buried in Mt. Olive or in the Chapple cemetary on the farm. We know of his other brother Richard who died in 1861. He is buried on the farm. Wow! Please let me know about the info you have. Thanks so much for emailing back!

William Chapple, born is Devonshire June 13, 1824 was my great-great grandfather. One of his sons, John Chapple was my great grandfather and his son William Curtis Bryan Chapple, Sr. was my grandfather. I am not sure about John born in that time period. William had a brother named Richard who was born in 1833 in Devonshire and was killed in 1860 in the civil war. He was 27 and was buried on the Chapple farm in the Chapple Cemetary. William's farm is still in the family and my cousin Tom Chapple farms and still raises cattle. He is the great nephew of William. His father was John Emery Chapple who was the grandson of William and my grandfather's brother. My brother Ed and I are researching our ancestors and he has alot of info on the Chapples. Some are still in Doniphan County and we have many relatives there. Some Chapples and others. We go back home all the time. There are a lot of us Chapples in Aurora, Colorado. My father William Bryan Chapple, Jr. moved us here i!

Hi,
Just curious, would this Elizabeth Chapple have been married to a Robert Alfred Fitton? Have children Alfred John and Mildred? Maybe lived in or around Worcester, MA and buried in Hope Cemetery? I am researching my grandfathers family, and I have his parents, Robert and Elizabeth (Chapple) Fitton, but then that is it...I have gotten no farther. No one seems to know anything beyond this point. Hope you can help...
