Reading this sequence of postings regarding Thomas has explained some things to me that I was confused about in my research.
My gggrandfather was James Edy Chappell. I found that his father was Thomas Armstrong and that he was married to Sarah Gavitt and Mary Elizabeth Waldrupp. I was confused about this since the timeframes were not matching up. Can someone give me what information they have on Thomas? This is what I understand from my research:
1. Thomas Armstrong was married to Sarah Gavitt probably first since they were both from RI. Their children were also born earlier, Lucy Marie Moriah b. 2/25/1837 and George Armstrong b. 4/6/1822. By the way, Armstrong was Thomas A.'s mother, Hanna's maiden name and her father was George Armstrong.
2. Thomas A. then went to Utah where he married Mary Elizabeth Wadrupp b. 2/11/1834. (I do not have any proof, but some indications have been pointing to me that this may have had something to do with the Mountain Meadows massacre). Their children were James Edy 6/1/1860, Henry Thomas 6/7/1858 and Susanna 11/13/1855. I lose track of Mary Elizabeth at this time.
3. At this point I lose track of Thomas A. James Edy went to the Logan Iowa area sometime in the 1870's. I have the family bible that was given to James Edy on his marriage to Betsy Lafolia Peckenpaugh. Not in good condition though.
4. Sarah Gavitt and Lucy Marie Chappell also end up in Iowa in the 1870's, so I assume they came with James Edy.
I would really like to get someone to fill in the details that they know and any other information that they have on the families.

Those researching descendants of Moses Baker (born about 1708 and died 1786 in N. Carolina) might find information they are seeking in a book recently published, titled "Wainscott Cousins." The book has a chapter on the Baker family which settled in Edgecombe and Rowan Counties, NC. They are descendants of Moses Baker and wife Sarah Chappel; their children included: Michael, Moses Jr., Aaron, Thomas, Joshua, Ann, Mary and Jesse.
"Wainscott Cousins" is a book about families with marriage connections to descendants of Richard Wainscott of Virginia and N. Carolina (later Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri & Texas). The families included in the book are Baker, Douthitt, Elrod, March/Martz, McMains, Razor, Roberts, Stice, Stringfellow and Wymore. One feature of the book is that it shows marriage relationships among all of these families. Someone descended from one of these families may be descended from others of these families due to marriages back in the 1700s and early 1800s.

In my research of the Prismall family, I have a Charles Prismall was born in 1855 in Andover, England who immigrated with his parents to Australia at the age of 4. In 1884, he married Florence CHAPPLE, daughter of William Chapple and Mary Anne Chapple, nee Goodwin. The couple became early members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Melbourne.
They had three children. They were:
Alice, born in 1887 in Footscray and died in 1890 in Footscray
Arthur Daniel, born in 1895 in Footscray. He married an Isabel WIFFEN in 1930 in Victoria. Isabel was born in 1912 and died in Ballarat in 1947. Arthur died in Box Hill in 1966.
Lillian Ada, born in 1901 in Footscray and died in 1929 in Balwyn.
Is anybody researching this family or Chapples of that era in Victoria, Australia.
Happy to exchange Prismall information,
Carol Dale

I am researching the Chapple family in Bermondsey London in the 1800s . Thomas Chapple a widower marries my GGGrandmother Betsey Elizabeth Shrewsbury in 1857. She already has an illigitimate son Samuel born 1855. The family are at the same address in Bermondsey all this time. Thomas is a greengrocer. By the 1881 census they have completely disappeared. None of the children appear to marry or die here. I am starting to try and find out where they have gone. Any help would be appreciated. There is a Robert Chapple in the same district as my family at the same time. he is a mariner.
