My family is mixed on it as well. The majority of the midwest folks seem to "CH" (chapel), while the Florida and West Coast people use Sha-pell.

My grandfather, who came from England (Portsmouth) and moved to Detroit, MI around 1912, pronounced it with the "SH" sound (sha-pell). My father got tired of the spelling confusion and changed the pronunciation to "CH" (chapel). His siblings kept the original pronunciation, though, so we're a "mixed" family.

Hi Sandra,
It's been a long time since we were in touch with one another. Charles Chappell's first wife WAS Beatrice Rowe. He and his wife separated and Charles remarried in Canada. His second wife was Violet Willson. They had 4 daughters--all of them alive and well at this time.
Their second born daughter, Annabelle, is my husband's mother.
We have tried to trace Augustus Roy Chappell and his twin sons but have been unable to find out where they are at present.
My mother-in-law would love to communicate with him if we could get a contact address or phone number.
Thanks for the information about your Grandfather. :D
Hope to hear from you.
Linda
