Since your original message was posted so long ago, you may already have this info, but I thought I would offer it up anyways.
The O.B. Chappell you are referring to was my great-grandfather. He was born on 09/10/1891 in Alabama (his father came from South Carolina) and died 07/19/1969. He is buried at Cook Cemetery in Falkville, AL.
His wife Ollie Mae, his parents James and Lizzie, and his sons O.B. Jr., James, Stan and Donald are also buried there. Two of his daughters, Lizzie Mae & Myrtis, are buried at nearby Mountain Top Christian Church. Another daughter, Ponnie, is buried at Mount Tabor.
Here's an interesting fact you might not know: O.B. was one of at least 24 children born to Lizzie & James, but he was the only child to survive to adulthood.

The Chappell line also traces back to the Revolution. Their are some Chappells that are members of the DAR's because of their Chappell lineage. Abner Chappell was the one who fought in the Revolutionary War. My cousin Anne Chappell wrote a really detailed book about the Chappell lineage. I think Anne still has her Chappell family tree here in Ancestry.com and she used to have a lot of solid sources in her family tree. Think she also had the painting of the ship Speedwell with her tree.

What's the name of your family tree on ancestry.com? There are quite a few Chappell family trees so can't tell which one is yours. I am descended from the Thomas Chappell
line that lived on the James River in 1700's and would love to connect to his family in the UK.

Like it was spelled Chapel and sounds like apple.
I trace my line to John Chappell ca 1774-1838 in VA. Most likely a descendant of Thomas Chappell who landed in Jamestown Colony in 1635 but records are too scarce to be certain.

My mother's side are Scottish chappells and she along with half of her family, she says, pronounce it like chapel, as in the place of worship. The rest of her family strangely pronounce it like chipelle. The Sh sound does sound more French, so i suppose if you want to appear a bit more exotic, you could frenchen the name up in that way.
On an interesting note, after looking further into the history of the name chappell, it seems that it was a name popular all over christian Europe, given to people who prayed behind and beneath the cape of Pope Martin around 650AD, and derives from the latin cappa-cella (cappa meaning hoaded cloak or cape and cella meaning enclosed place) a phrase which ultimately and eventually developed into the English word chapel. The spelling Chappell, is just a variation of chapel, probably pre-dating it and possibly being used more popularly in france, since in italy and spain the H is missing and you tend to see cappella or cappello. The name is so ancient that there are loads of variations of it, which i find quite exciting.
Hope this intrigues you.
