I do hope that most of you are still working with the CHAPPELL family.

Looking at the several members of this thread, I have the idea that among you are the answers to this CHAPPELL family that seems to have splintered sometime around 1850 in Utah.
Some of you are looking for information for finding this family in CA in the 1860 census.
Others seem to have lots of information to share about part of the family migrating to IOWA.
My interest is in Edwin Chappell that is listed as a son of Thomas [A] Chappell [ -s/o Thomas/Hanna] b: abt 1795 & Sarah "Sally" [Gavitt]-Chappell b: Abt 1804 Rhode Island, USA their children are listed
[1] George Chappell b: 4/6/1822 Rhode Island, USA
[2] Edwin Chappell b:abt 1834 Connecticut, USA
[3] Lucy Marie Moriah b. 2/25/1837 Connecticut, USA
They are found: 1850 United States Census, US Census Bureau, Utah, Great Salt Lake, -farmer
http://earlylds.com/familygroup.php?familyID=F4710&tree=Earlylds
We find 'my' Ed Chappell in the Napa Sonoma CA 1860 Census living with "my" STUBBLEFIELD & WILLIAMS families and marries Nancy Grissom 1864 & has a daughter Serena [CHAPPELL}-HEACOX.
Since I do not hava a subscription to the census, perhaps one of you will check that same 1860 CA census for Thomas [Armstrong?] Chappell b: abt 1795 RI[-s/o Thomas & Hanna (Armstrong)-Chappell] and I see someone says Thomas Chappell b: 1795 married a second wife:
Mary Elizabeth Waldrupp b. 2/11/1834-Their children were James Edy 6/1/1860, Henry Thomas 6/7/1858 and Susanna 11/13/1855. Where were they born?
I have a question as to why I do not see any mention of Edwin Chappell b:abt 1834 Connecticut, USA on any of the postings on these message boards. Everyone has George & Lucy~!
I would like to get more dates of birth & places for these people.
Any ideas or suggestions are always welcome.

You might also be interested in Mrs. John McQueen Guttery's soft-bound book entitled, "Records of the Chappells in England and The Chappells in Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and other States" whereby she addresses several errors in the Phil Chappell book published in 1900 that have been uncovered in subsequent years. Although it is difficult to comeby,a copy of the Guttery book can be found in Salt Lake City at the Family History Library. My own copy of her book is a reprinted version from Higginson Book company in Massachusetts. It's a treasure for anyone researching the Chappell line.

Seems like there was something about Md. Maybe John Williams entered into service in Md or something. but there are also Thompsons all over the place near them in Ky. They are right across the river from Indiana. Let me looks in my files this week and see what I can find-this is the first link I have really seen that sounds right.

I descend from James Chappell who had a sister named Mary (Molly) This Mary I beleve is the one who married John Williams... However the 1950 census shows James was born in Maryland... The 1776 state census of Susquehannah, Harford County, MD shows James and Mary in the home of a Mary Thompson... Another researcher declares he saw a citation in sdome book in the Library of Congress that showed a George Chappell left these children in Mary Thompso's care... I thought she might be their maternal grandmother, but he says the citation said she was a church-member friend of George... I've tried for years to find that book by long distance... A Random Acts of Kindness Librarian there searched for it but never found it... The researcher who saw it said it was a red book, and the librarian says ALL their old shop-worn books are re-bound in red!
I do know that Mary went to Kentucky or Indiana... I just wish someone in MD or DC would get on this trail for us!

Very interested in the Chappell family in wayne county tennessee. In 1900 census wayne co tn dist #3 there is listed a William B Chappell born 1829 and wife Mary born 1848 with children.
Next door is Jessie Chappell jan 1826 and Louisa born apr 1835 with children Paralee oct 1865, Jesiee 1870, Nimrod 1875.
Your mention of Wayne County leads me to believe these people are in some way related.
They are living next door to my second cousin and his family.
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who could make a connection here.
