Hi, Larry, I'm referring to a file that is passed among researchers of the Chappell line. I lost mine when the computer crashed. I've seen it integrated into other people's family trees on www.GenCircles.com and you can find it there by entering that you're looking for Samuel CHAPPELL with wife, Elizabeth. That's if no one else has time to send you a copy. I'm trying to rebuild mine, but it's a slow process. Good luck! Judi

Okay, this is what I believe is the way it works out (no actual proof at my hands, but it makes sense of the confusing facts that are available.)
Drury I was born 1738 and died in North Carolina. He married in 1765 to Lucy _____ then Sally SEXTON in 1802. He had a son named Drury (II) born 1768 by unknown mother.
When Drury I died, Drury II and other relatives and friends, including Ansel CHAPPELL, Eli CHAPPELL and Alexander and Charlotte CLARK nee CLARK, left NC for TN.
Drury II married Rebekah HENRY, a widow, in 1840.
Now, Ansel had a brother named Drury (III) who was born in 1788. Ansel named one of his own sons after him, Drury IV born in 1815. Ansel also had a son named Ansel / Hansell.
On the 1836 Tax List in Wake Co., NC, is listed a Hansell CHAPPELL. I think it is the son.
According to Aviline (Adeline?) CLARK, daughter to Charlotte CLARK nee CHAPPELL, there was Cherokee blood in the family and that her great-uncle Drury CHAPPELL spoke some Indian. That would make it Drury III.
In the documents where the CHAPPELL family members claimed Indian blood, Mrs. WILLIAMS claimed Amanda S. CHRISTIAN nee CLARK as her cousin and Amanda claimed J. A. (J. E. - John Elmore?) CHAPPELL as a cousin. Martha E. HARRIS said that Drury CHAPPELL was her great-uncle through her mother and grandmother, meaning Charlotte CLARK nee CHAPPELL. This was apparently done in Centerville, Hickman Co., TN in 1908.
I hope this helps someone and does not mislead. I'm still working hard on trying to figure out Ansel CHAPPELL I's father. I'm also wondering who else he married before he married Dorcas COLEMAN / Darkis COLEMAN. He married Dorcas in 1815 and he had several kids born before then, including Eli CHAPPELL.
If you look at the Chappell Family File, you will see that there is a Drury CHAPPELL born to Elizabeth BRIGGS I and her CHAPPELL husband. I've still got some digging to do, but it looks promising that we may have the foundation for the bridge to connect our families to the Speedwell CHAPPELLS. Wouldn't that be great!?

Hi, Vera, I've been doing some digging. Drury and Eli do appear to be brothers, not father and son. Eli's father may be Ansel CHAPPELL.
Also, after doing a lot of head-scratching, I came to realize that there are something like 5 Drury CHAPPELLs. We need to keep them separated because it can really get confusing if we're not careful. When I find my notes, I'll write it out for you. Judi
