Hi Carolyn:
I have suspected for a long time that my family of Chappell's came from this
branch. My oldest verified ancestor is Robert Chappell (b-abt 1732) who is
found in Prince Edward Co, VA by 1771 (land purchase). Further records show
the family migrated to GA in 1788. Robert's wife was Agnes (I don't
think--Cross).
As to a connection to the Thomas Chappell line, I think there probably was,
though I have no proof. I strongly feel that Abraham Chappell of
Chesterfield Co, VA was a brother of my Robert and not in the family suggested by Phil
Chappell. If you could give me some possible lines for my Robert and Agnes
(?) Chappell, I will appreciate the help.

My Chappell lines are all in Chowan/Perquimans, NC. I'm trying to get some
of them back into VA. I do have one line that goes to the Warwick/York County
Chappells. I am wondering if those families have any connection to the
Chappells on the Southside: Surry, Sussex, Prince George, and Charles City County
north of the James. Anyone have these lined followed into NC or related to
those in York/Warwick, VA?
Thanks very much!

There are Thompsons all around my Molly Chappel and John Williams family in n. Ky. They named one of their sons George, but he died as a child. They had a son John who d. in 1812 in New Orleans at the battle there, they had Jane, Elizabeth, Ann, Jesse, and Page, also. There was one anothre child, I think Polly who d. at birth. They m. in Prince William Va. in 1785 before migrating to n. Ky. John and Molly both died in Henry Co. Ky. I do not know if any Chappels migrated but seems I do remember seeing some in or near the area. Perhaps Bourbon Co. in the late 170's.
Elizabeth had a daughter SusanAnne/Sarah Eldridge,my line.

Thank you, that sounds great. My e-mail is scottchpl(a)sti.net.
1803 is when Samuel and Jemima had their first child Samuel. Last child was our Great Great Grandfather Eli in 1818. Big families back then. I did find (online) documents about Eli's service in the Royal Marines in the 1830's.
All my other Grandparents were born in Scotland then went to Canada in the 1920's. I was born in Canada then my family moved to California when I was 8. I hear Swindon isn't like it used to be? I suppose the old areas can get rundown over time. I'd really like to get over there some day.
Looking forward to seeing what you have.
Cheers,
Scott

I live in Shropshire because of work but was born and raised in Hampshire. Do you have a direct e-mail address if so I will scan some of the old photos I have and send them on to you,it will take me a day or two to get them together and bring them into work to scan.My fathers eldest sister had a lot of old family papers the earliest about 1803 and passed them onto me before she died.My father had three sisters and I have no brothers or sisters and only one daughter so my line of the family will finish. If my daughter does not want the old family things I will pass them onto the Wiltshire archives.

I live in California now. My Great Grandfather John moved to Canada in 1911. My Grandfather was born in Basingstoke and was the youngest of 8 children. His name was Reginald Samuel Chappell and he was born in 1893. My parents weren't fond of the names Reginald and Samuel so they named me Reginald Scott and always called me Scott. At least that way I had the same initials as my Grandfather.
I do not have any old documents or pictures. My Dad and his siblings are all still alive so they would have them. My 2 uncles are in Canada (British Columbia) and my Aunt is here in California as is my Mum and Dad. My Dad does have pictures of my Grandfather and Grandmother but I haven't seen any earlier pictures than that.
I did order copies of my Grandfathers WWI service record. He was with the Canadian Field Artillary and was wounded in France.
Lilian and Kate were the only sisters to stay behind and not move to Canada. I don't know who they married.
Where are you located?
Cheers,
Scott

I will search out some dates for you I made a mistake with my grandfathers brother it was Henry for some reason my late aunt in her later years called him George no idea why ! Are you in the UK if so would you like to talk it would be easier to describe the family documents I have than write about them. Do you have any old family documents or photos Best Wishes Bob Chappell

Thank you so much for replying. I do know that your Samuel was raised by his Uncle William according to the 1851 census. Samuel was the older brother to my Great Grandfather John Beak Chappell. Samuel went on to marry Sarah Sainsbury in 1874 which, as you know, produced your Grandfather William. I was curious about why Samuel lived with his Uncle William after returning from the USA? Do you know anything about that? Samuel died in 1926, correct? When was George born? I don't see him on the 1901 census. Any questions you have for me?
Cheers,
Scott Chappell

Did I catch wind of another Chappell reunion this year in Chowan/Perquimans, NC? Trying to plan our year and hoping there's going to be another great one like the one I missed in 2005.
Thanks,

I have a Molly Chappel who m. John Williams. They settled in n. Ky. just across the river from Jefferson county, Indiana. Their first son was named John-assume that was her father's name also. There were people in the same area from Md., Pa, Va. and N.C. Possible they all migrated together into the area. They all show up in records early 1800's also.

yes, they became Quakers in Perquimans County NC--I found some info on the Perquimans Monthly Meeting and it mentions a lot of Chappells beginning in 1755 as being Quakers, I suspect the Quaker relationship had something to do with them going to Indiana between 1811-1815. Brenda Chappell Birmelin

The Colonial Dames of the XVIIth Century seem to think that Capt. John Chappell never settled in the U.S.
