I don't know if this will help you or not considering it is six years later, but my father's mother was a Chappell and I think I have some information. John Jay Chappell was from and born in New York. His father was born in New York and his mother was born in Rodderland, the land of Rodder in Western Germany. Please let me know if this helps you or you have traced back even further from this. I would greatly appreciate as well.

Looking for anyone working on the line of Ezekiel Chapel b.1799 in
Connecticut, d. after 1880, probably in Plainfield, Waushara Co., Wisconsin. His wife
was Amada Jelliff/Gelliff, b. 1797 in Vermont, d. 1860-1880 in Waushara Co.,
WI. I believe Ezekiel's father was Stephen Chapel (s/o Simeon & Abigail
Searls Chapel) b. 1762 in Connecticut, d. 1843 in Otsego Co., NY. and his mother
was Sarah Chapel (d/o Ezekiel & Sarah Gardener Chapel).
Thanks,
Steve
