Hello everyone,
We are researching MARY CHAPPLE from Cornwall England.
We have found Mary born in 1831 in Helston Cornwall and have just begun to
trace the family through census records and Cornwall Parish records. Her
family is Richard and Ann (Nancy Toy) Chapple living in Meneage Street for
most of 1800s.
At present I can't find out how or why Mary came out to NSW but she does
have several children before marrying Henry Parkes Convict 1839 NSW)on 1867
in the Bathurst area of NSW. It would be wonderful to hear from anyone
related to the Chapples of Helston or interested in sharing information with
us!
Kind regards
Jann Sutton Parkes
Greetings,
J.B. Stovall held 64 slaves in Halifax County VA in 1860.
I have a copy of the 1869 Marriage License of a Sue Stovall
and Daniel Younger.
The parents of both Sue and Daniel were slaves to Joel Younger.
In 1870 the parents of Daniel were using the Surname Chappell, and the parents of Sue were using the Younger surname.
Sue and Daniel were married at the home of the above J. B. Stovall.
Since Sue was calling herself Sue Stovall when she married in 1869, I am assuming that somehow before she was freed in 1865, Sue went from being a slave of Joel Younger, to being a slave of J.B. Stovall.
Any help out there?
Larry

I will gladly share pictures with you. I'm not sure what pictures I have, it's been a while since I went through them. I know I have quite a few of Grandpa and his brothers-they would be Nimrod's grandsons. I have a couple of pictures of his daughter Macedonia in her later years. I don't have much on Clarence, most of what I have on that part of the family came from a family group sheet filled out by one of Carrie's children. I wouly like to see the pictures of Clarence and his family, I'm curious to see if the strong family resemblence is in that generation too.
Melissa

I am researching the Nimrod Henry Clay Chappell line. I just found today by obtaining the death certificate of Clarence Lewis Chappell (Nimrod's son) that Nimrod is my husband's great grandfather. I posted some additional information under Nimrod on Clarence's family. I have pictures of Clarence and his family if you would like. I would love to have pictures of Nimrod and/or his family if you have some and would like to share.

A Thomas "Sanbige" (actually Sandige/Sandage/Sandidge/Sandridge...spelled different ways throughout the subsequent years) is shown in a surviving Saint Peter's Parish record to have married a Frances Chappell in New Kent Co., VA on 20 Feb 1712. It is strongly believed by most researchers that Thomas was a son of John Sandige (died by the early 1700s in New Kent Co., VA), and John was a son of a James Sandige of England. John Sandige had married Mary Vaughan, and in addition to Thomas, their other sons are believed to have been William Sandidge "I" and John Sandidge "II." The part of New Kent Co., VA in which they lived apparently became part of Hanover Co., VA around 1720 (as I recall), and Hanover is considered to be a "burned county" (the court/county records were moved to Richmond for "safe keeping" during the War Between the States, but then Richmod was burned).
Does anyone know anything about the family of the above Frances Chappell in New Kent? Can that family be traced back to the Chappells in Charles City Co., VA in the mid-1600s (and Prince George Co., VA after 1710)? One researcher believes that Thomas and Frances moved to SC, and that this branch of the family may have spelled the name "Sandage" in most cases there.
Most Sandidge/Sandridge research has been on William Sandridge "I," and his branch of the family was later found in Spotsylvania Co., VA and Albemarle Co., VA. Little seems to be known, however, about William's apparent brothers John "II" and Thomas. Thanks!

Joseph Oxley Chappell, born 29 December 1812, died 22 March 1886, son of Charles Chappell and Eleanor Thompson. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Tidnish Bridge, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. He married on 1 May 1866 to Dorothy Thompson, born 23 March 1835, died after 1901. In 1901, Dorothy was living with her daughter and son-in-law. In 1903, her daughter and husband were living in the United States, whether Dorothy when with them or not, I have not found anything on her as yet.
This isn't my line of Chappells (I don't think) but thought it might help out someone else.

Remarks. --- Mr. Chappell resided at Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee. During the war he was the magistrate of the district under the Confederacy. He was at first for the Union and so voted, but finally voted for secession, and went with the State. He says he cannot say that his sympathies constantly were with the United States, though his judgment was. We cannot find Mr. Chappell loyal, and his claim is rejected.
