Hi!
I thought I would post something I just found about Mary Elizabeth Chappell. She is my third gr grandmother. For years, I've been looking for documentation as to her date of death. Today I found her obit in a book entitled "Early Newspaper Clippings from Hardin County, IL". Mary E. was born in Alabama, but moved to Pope County, IL when very young. She first married James Hazel. He died. Then she married John E. Speck. I believe he died in 1868. After the 1860, I had never been able to find her in a census, so I assumed that she died before 1870.
The obit I found today showed date of death August 12, 1894 in Carmi, White County, IL. This data is consistent with some data that had been posted on the internet for years. Trouble was I had never found a source for it. Today I did. Also, this obit showed that she married twice after the death of her second husband John Speck. The third husband was Thomas Lavender and the fourth was Capt. Richard Knuckey.
If anybody out there was familiar with this info, I sure would appreciate hearing from you!
Robert Schneider

Wow, Jeff...seems like a tough one here. I have checked censuses for TN for 1870 and on, but no luck. 1920 and 1930 with Jess or J.F. as head of household both say both of his parents were from TN. Gotta find 'em!
Do you have any idea when he or they moved to MO?
Also, why do you think his parents might be Wyatt and Betty?
I'd love to help solve this one....will keep looking as time permits!
Carolyn
