I recently found a newspaper article in a 1923 issue of the Saginaw Michigan Newspaper. The article tells of a John N. Chappell, Dispatcher, Dead. Was well known among Pere Marquette Railroad Men of State. He died 5/21/1923 after an operation for appendicitis. He was born 2/7/1876 in Lima, N.Y. and came to Saginaw, Michigan in 1918. He was survived by his wife Sarah Strickland, his parents Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Chappell, three sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Alfred Young, Mrs. L.H. Bayless, Mrs. E.W.Granville, Fred Chappell of Sagianw, Charles Chappell of Detroit and William Chappell of Flint. Fred Chappell was my gggrandfather.
I am looking for info on William and/or Charles Chappell.
I would be willing to share what info I have on this family.
Thank you.

Carolyn,
Thank you for your reply. My ancestors go back to Princess Anne County (Virginia Beach) in Virginia in the 1720s. I believe they came there from Perquimans County, but don't have any solid proof. George Chappell's wife, Elizabeth Barnes, I believe was born in Perquimans Co. These are my 5th great grandparents. The earliest record of them is in 1722 when George bought some property in Princess Anne County from Luke Mosely . I specifically wonder if he could be a brother to Robert Chappell who received land from Thomas Roundtree as a gift in Perquimans County in 1729.
What I know about the Chappell family is recorded in a family history book that I have written and which is posted online at http://www.angelfire.com/fang/snaggle
I'm looking for something to tie into the Chappell lines in this area.

Correction:
Date of newspaper, date of death and date of burial should be 1956, not 1954. My error, sorry.
Katie, Tom, and all,
I just ran across your letter from October. I tried to write to
Hendka847(a)cs.com three different times and they all bounced. I wanted to know more
about Josiah's father, William, who he said died in Tn. in 1840. I have had
(for years, I might add) his father as being James, B. 1801 Knox Co., TN, (where
there is a birth registered as Josiah Washington BROWN. , B. 1821) and his
mother was Martha CHAPPELL.
Now this might not be right, as there is another BROWN-CHAPPELL in TN.
about the same dates, but they are from Obion Co., in west TN. They had a
son, George Washington BROWN born a year later than my Josiah, but entirely
different wifves, and children and in two different sections of TN. I have some
info on the WEIR family from a woman in CA. who has written a book on them, but
she didn't know the parents of Josiah, either. The KINSER name just came up
the last six months. My father-in-law always said her name was Nancy KINNER,
but with limited education in those days, the 1800's the name might have been
written unreadable or been misheard. But, I'm beginning to think she might
have been married before to a KINSER. Her maiden name was COFFEY, daughter of
Manerva CARDWELL and Daniel COFFEY. (This is not the Daniel COFFEY who is
related to Daniel BOONE)and that's been proven. So I still don't know what's right
and what's wrong. THe COFFEE family was from Rockingham Co., N>C>
If anyone has the corrct address of Hendra847(a)cs.com, please write me
privately. I really would like to get this mess straightened out. It's been
over 30 years that I've been banging my head on this brick wall, and it's getting
tiresome. Any help or information would be most gratefully appreciated.
Thanks. Earlene Hutsell eroch25(a)aol.com

Like you I also have Moon's and Chappell's but different lines..my Chappells are
my paternal side Southern Chappells and my Moon's are my maternal side, Northern
Moons. I do know that some of the Moon's went South rather than west, as my direct
line did.
I do have Willingham's and Slaughters in a file I am working on called The
Descendents of Richard Mohun (which my branch of Moon's derived its name from). They
are not in my direct line and I have not come across a Chappell-Moon direct
connection in that file yet. In the file, I am up to a Moon from the line that went
South who's descendents settled in Georgia.
