Would appriciate a copy of the file that was offered some months ago.
Looking for the link between John/Thomas Chappell and John Chappell (abt 1774-1838 Dinwiddie County, VA) who is probably from the James Chappell branch.
Greetings,
I am an Afro-American in search of info.
My G-Grand parents were Peter and Allie/Alice Chappell of Halifax Co. Va.
Christopher Carlton a white slave holder died in 1824 (probably in King +
Queen County) Va. In his will Christopher willed to his daughter Polly Carlton
“one Negro Esther and her future increase”.
Dolly died July 7, 1858 without husband, or issue.
In Jan of 1859 the increase of "one Negro Esther", the slave willed to
Polly Carlton were bought by Joel Younger from Polly Carlton's surviving siblings
and the dead siblings children for $1,500 dollars.
"One negro Esther" was mentioned in the papers only to establish that Joel
was purchasing her increase (I am assuming that Ester was then dead.).
The sum of $1,500, bought my g-grand mother Allie and her children, Willis,
Daniel (my grandfather ), Eppa, George, and Henry.
Joel Younger had in fact had posession of Allie before he officially bought
her in 1859, because I found in Slave Birth Records, Allie giving birth to
three of her children, in 1853, 1855, and 1858, with the owner listed as Joel
Younger.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
A white man Robert Chappell Sr. died in 1829. Found in a listing of Robert's
property was slave Mary and her child Peter. This Peter may have become the
hubby of Allie/Alice above.
In 1859 Robert Chappell, Jr., son of Robert Sr. above died. In the property
of Robert Chappell Jr., was listed Peter, now a man, valued at $1,250.
Because Thomas Chappell Jr died before the 1860 Census, I looked for him in
the 1850 census, Thomas Chappell Jr. was missing in the 1850 Census.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In the 1870 Census for Halifax Co Va, Peter aged 40y (b.abt 1830) and Allie
aged 35 were found with the following children: Willis 20y. George, 15y,
Henry 13y, Peter 12y, Doctor 10y, Davis 9y, Bell 7y, Willy Ann 5y, Edward
3y, and Horace 6mo.
Daniel my gfather using the Surname Younger, was living nearby with his wife
Sue.
In 1880 I again find Peter 50y, and Allie/Alice 50 y, with children Bell
18y, Willie 16, Doctor 20, Lee (Peter) 22y, Henry 23y, Eppy 24y, Edward 12y,
Horace (Braxton) 11y, Milly 7y, and Corer 4y.
The last mention I found of of Peter Chappell was in the 1899 Personal
Property Tax Listings. Peter was missing in the 1900 PPT list therefore Peter
probably died some time between 1899 & 1900.
Any help out there?
Larry
My wife's grandfather is William Henry Chappell b:1870 supposedly in
Michigan. This is later than any you have mentioned but William Henry's
father (as far as we speculate) was William H Chappell. My wife's father
and grandfather lived in western Maryland. That is close to the 'neck ' of
Virginia.
I am trying to find more about these Chappells.

| Hello Stacey,
|
| Unfortunately, I cannot help you. My grandfather, Bill, was b. Franklin
Co.,
| KY. 1827. There is over 100 years between us. He had a brother, John
Edward,
| who my father was named after. John only had one son who did not have any
| children. While my grandfather had a large family there are only two great
| great grandsons to carry on the name. Both are married but the wife of one
| doesn't want a child, the brother and his wife are desperately trying to
conceive
| and as of today no results.
|
| By my figuring a son carrying the name would have been from one of the
sons
| of John and Mary Yeaman. I have a copy of the Chappell, Dickie, and other
| Kindred Families by Phil Chappell. I will check through it for you. The
Chappell
| you named b. 1738 in Surry Co., VA sounds like one from Phil's tribe. Why
oh
| why did every family need a "John"? I have never seen the marriage of a
John
| to a Mary Hines.
|
| My line is Grandfather William Harrison Chappell, son of Harrison Henry
| Chappell, the son of John Chappell and Mary Yeaman. That is the correct
spelling.
| John and Mary lived in the Northern Neck of VA, and he was in the
| Revolutionary War.
|
| I appreciate your e-mail. Thanks very much.

Hi Linda,
Sorry I don't have a Stanley. I suspect that he was born later than my
Grandfather. My Grandfather was William Harrison Chappell, b. 1827, Franklin Co.,
KY. He had one brother, John Edward Chappell who had one son who never had
any children. An uncle of my grandfather, Isaiah R. Chappel (notice they only
used one l) who only had one son, George Hereford Chappel.
My line hasn't made it easy. In two cases the husbands died and their widows
remarried and the sons took their stepfathers names, another had a son born
after his father's death and that beautiful child died of ruptured appendix
when he was six years of age. Life does have it's trials. My interest came when
I was small because my first cousins were as old as my Mother or dead. My
research has been difficult. I will keep your Stanley in mind and will notify
you if I have a clue.
Thank you for your consideration.
Florence

Florence,
My great grandfather was Stanley Chappell, born 1891, from Missouri. He
married Viola Limberg. Do you have Stanley in your tree?

Hello Florence,
I have seen that John Chappell was the son of John Chappell and Mary Hines.
Do
not know if this is accurate. I have seen Mary Yeaman's surname spelled
Yaman and
Yayman as well. Your mention of the orphans sound familiar to me from my
research
but I do not know where in my notes this would be...the elder John was born
1738 in
Surry Co. VA His parents were James Chappell and Elizabeth Briggs. Mary
Hines was
born 6 Sep 1741 VA to Thomas Hines and Elizabeth unknown.

Hello Chappell Researchers,
I am a direct descendent of John Chappell and Mary Yeaman and am looking for
members of this family. John was a Revolutionary soldier, was born and
raised in Fairfax Co., VA and was married to Mary about 1782 by the Reverend
Massey. Phil E. Chappell mentioned him in his book "The Chappell, Dickie and
other Kindred Families" but didn't know who he was. He called him a peninsular
Chappell. Phil lived a few miles from my grandfather William M. Chappell in
adjacent counties. It seems that he was only interested in prominent families.
Grandfather Bill, his brother, John E. Chappell and four sisters were
orphaned in Boone Co., MO. I will appreciate any help you can give. Many thanks.

I am looking for the parents or William Giffin/Giffen born about 1817 in Ohio. He married Elizabeth Chapel in Clark Co., Indiana. The marriage is recorded as William Griffin to Elizabeth Chappell 10 December 1843. Also looking for any information on Elizabeth. She was born in Indiana about 1814. It appears that they died prior to the 1860 census, leaving two children, Sarah and George Washington Giffin. There was always a family story that George was orphaned and traveled by train to Indiana. I found a George W Giffin of the right age living with the Kirk family in Clark Co., Indiana in 1860. A Sarah Giffin of the right age is listed in the household of John Giffin in Belmont, Ohio. Any help with this would be appreciated!

Prove to me that I have not come from a line that hatched from an egg, please!
My GG grandfather, Eli (John?) CHAPPELL was b. Abt. 1810 in North Carolina, married Andis or Audis REVERE, possibly in Tennessee, and bought a farm outside the township of Morrison Bluff, Johnson Co. (now Logan Co.), Arkansas. They had several children before he was murdered on the farm in the 1860s (1864-67 time period). The family fled to Texas and settled in the Red River Co. and Lamar Co., Texas, region. One son, Samuel, had been married to Serinah ________ and had a son, Edward CHAPPELL. There is nothing about what happened to Serinah and Edward. Samuel married secondly Zulus A. LACEY in Red River Co., TX, shortly after they got there.
Who are the parents of Eli CHAPPELL, Andis REVERE?
What happened to Serinah and Edward CHAPPELL?
Who killed Eli and why?
