Rosalie Headland, who appears to be the same as in your genealogy, helped nurse a Civil War vet and knew him for 25 years prior to his death in 1922 in the Bronx. His name was Adam Wurster. I don't see a connection between the two families (the Wurster's and Headland's or Chapell's), and I'd like to know why she helped his two daughters and one daughter in law in nursing him. Perhaps she was a good friend of one of them. I just don't know, but I'm looking for clues!

Sorry, I got the James and John mixed up. It was John who was married to Sarah MacMillan. John's father was James Thompson married to Sarah Wood. John and Sarah MacMillan had a son named James MacMillan Thompson who was born in 1791. I have no other firm dates, although through extrapolation it would seem reasonable that Sarah MacMillan was probably born in the 1760s.
The information comes from a letter I found in the MacMillan folder held in the York County (Pennsylvania) Historical Society files. It was written by one Mary Gaston about the year 1900 and was a sort of family history summary and didn't contain any primary source material. Mary Gaston was a great-grandaughter of Sarah MacMillan's brother. Both the James and George Thompson families moved on to the Wheeling, Virginia (now West Virginia) and St. Clairsville, Ohio area some time after about 1815.
One Virginia Shedd, who was a descendant of Sarah MacMillan and James Thompson, joined the DAR about a hundred years ago through Sarah MacMillan's grandfather, James MacMillan. Some of the information on that application concerning James MacMillan I believe to be bogus, but it did trace the line down to her and the lineage itself should be valid. However, I don't have that information in my possession.
If you look for records on this family please note that the MacMillan name was spelled McMullan at that time and later was changed to McMillen and eventually to MacMillan.
A family tree with these relationships is posted on my website at: http://www.angelfire.com/fang/snaggle/gedcom/index.html

Neil, I went over the past posts and tried to separate the James and Johns and this is how I try to keep track without birthdays...
James Thompson (speculation)
---John b. Harford Md + Sarah Macmillan, (speculation that her sister, Dorcas m. George Thompson)
-----James MacMillan Thompson + ?
If this is correct, what you are saying is that John b. Harford may have had a brother George. And is it also speculation that their father, James's father was John who married Sarah Wood?? And if so, do you have sources for this? Please correct is this is wrong interpretation.

I don't have specific dates, but if this is the family that
Sarah MacMillan married into, it would have to have been the James born in 1760 that she married, since she would have been born close to that time. The information I have states that James Thompson's father was John Thompson, married to Sarah Wood.
Sarah MacMillan's sister, Dorcas, married a George Thompson. It is family lore that James and George may have been brothers, but that might just be speculation.
Do you have the name of Fred's Father. My family followed the same route.

Sarah, I just happened to see your post. In my records I have a John Thompson married to Sarah MacMillan. John Thompson was born in Belair, Harford County, Maryland. His father was James Thompson. John and Sarah also had a son, James MacMillan Thompson who was born in 1790. Would this be the same family?
This is interesting because I also have Chappell ancestors who lived in Wilkes County, North Carolina at one point (1796-1811).
Researching the family of James Freeland Chapel, b. 20 May 1840 in Painted
Post, PA., s/o Ezekiel Chapel (b. 1799 in CT.) and Amanda Gelleff/Jolliff (b.
1797 VT.). I suspect that Ezekiel was the s/o Stephen Chapel (b. 1760/70 in
CT., parentage unknown) and Sarah Chapel (b.1779 in CT., d/o Ezekiel Chapel
and Sarah Gardener.
James Freeland Chapel was a veteran of the Civil War and served in Co. D,
4th Wisconsin Cavalry. He married Harriet Ellen Rockwell on 16 Aug 1864 in
Manchester, Green Lake, WI. Their children were all born there: Oscar David, b.
28 Sep 1865; Willis Alonzo, 11 Oct 1867; Elmer Adelbert, b.27 Jun 1870; and
twins Luella and Estella Pearl, b. 9 Sep 1873.
By 1900, most of this family was in Monroe Co., MO. and later can be found
in Washington Co. and Linn Co., Iowa.
Thanks,
Steve Loose
If you find out where, let me know and I can go by and get photos for you.
There is a Chappell here who is pastor of a large church in Lawrenceville, I think he is related to Clovis.

Recently I was sent the following E-Mail address. HENKA847(a)cs.com
There was no name with it, only the infoamtion at James BROWN had married
MArtha CHAPPELL, and had had Josiah Washington BROWN who married (1) MArtha WEIR
and (2) Nancy Kinner COFFEE.
Josiah is my husband's ancestor and he did marry the two women listed, but I
can't prove he was the son of James BROWN and MArtha CHAPPELL. I've written
to the above E-Mail address several times and they always bounce back. Does
anyone know the correct (new, I presume) address? I would love to get in contact
with this person to share data and ideas, but have no idea where to look for
the correct address.
Any help would be most gratefully appreciated. Earlene Hutsell

I am looking for information re Robert Chappell. He was a son of Samuel Jr. I believe he and his brother, John, moved to Mecklenberg County, VA at around the same time. Does anyone have any information on Robert Chappell's wife or children after Robert's death?
