I think I've posted you before. I'm searching for a Jay Frank who had a brother Charles Henry and were the children of Charles Henry b oct 2 1872 and went by Harry. There father was Charles Henry b 1841 Illinois and his father was Jason b 1809 NY. The last place I have for Jay and Charles was Memphis Tenn there dad was working for the railroad. That would have been aprox 1915. Large parts of the family stayed in NY. If you have any information on your J Frank's father I would surely like to hear about it.

Would you happen to have any more information about
Thomas Chappell (the elder), his list of children or his parents & siblings, POB, DOB?
I have a Polly Stubblefield b: 1819 AL that married a Chappell about 1840 in AL or TN or CT. They had a son Edwin Chappell in 1840 CT.
Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.
This post is for the French SHAPELL, SHAPPELL, SHOPBELL listers. Can anyone
enlighten me as to the identity of the Jeremiah SHAPPELL listed in the 1820
Windsor Twp., Berks Co. PA census? He is listed as living alone and in the
"over 45 years old" category, which means he would have to have been born
in or before 1775. I show Daniel SHAPPELL'S son Jeremias born in 1793 so it
can't be he. Any information appreciated. I'm from the Ohio SHOPBELLS,
descended from Jacob SHOPBELL who moved his famiily to Ashland County,OH in
1832.

Having a hard time reading some of those really old documents? The following link may help.
Von Stachon recently transcribed about 600 court records, deeds and wills
for several counties in Virginia. She made images of many of the common
words found in these old documents, and has prepared a table showing the
image of the handwriting with the transcribed word. This table may be
found at:

Thanks to Kathy from the Stokes surname mailing list for the warning about the bogus website! Her warning is serious, because this website has NOTHING to do with genealogy, and will try to load a plug-in onto your computer. It's also setting off virus warnings left and right. Again, the URL is
http://yurel.com/ka83
DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK and don't go to the site. Rootsweb will take care of the spam, so hopefully it won't go too much further.

I have a William Henry Chappell born 1 April 1839 in Manchester, Ontario Co., NY to James Gilmore Chappell and his wife Eliza Butts. They moved west with their family of six children and I believe settled just north of the Ohio/Michigan line.
William Henry married a Lucinda A. Baker b. 31 October 1841. Their marriage was 19 Dec 1869. He died 4 January 1927 and Lucinda died 9 July 1914.
I have found the Chappell in the northeast that is NY state hard to work with and because of this I haven't done too much with them. It is easier to work with lines that are less difficult.
Carol Sanderson.
Leon Clark if your Chappells lived anywhere near the Ohio border try looking for them in some Ohio records. There were a lot of boundary disputes about that time.

May this year be a happy, safe and prosperous one for all!
This is my Chappell family line, starting with me:
Judith Lee Chappell
Parents: Sterling Hunter Chappell
b. 6 Dec 1919 Minter, Lamar Co., TX
d. 21 Mar 1991 Garland, Dallas Co., TX
Bur. 26 Mar 1991 Pattonville, Lamar Co., TX
m. 25 July 1945 Pattonville, Lamar Co., TX
TO: Esther Pearl Permenter
b. 26 Jan 1924 Jayton, Kent Co., TX
d. 2 Dec 2002 Dallas, Dallas Co., TX - Cremated
Grandparents: Lonnie (Roe?) Chappell
b. 7 Dec 1881 Robinville (extinct), Red River Co., TX
d. 1 May 1969 Paris, Lamar Co., TX
Bur. 4 May 1969 Pattonville, Lamar Co., TX
m. 11 May 1902 Chappell Hill (extinct), Red River Co., TX
TO: Ruthie Lee Whitney
b. 21 Aug 1885 Chappell Hill, Red River Co., TX
d. 6 Aug 1981 Paris, Lamar Co., TX
Bur. Beside her husband
Gr-Grandparents: Dillard Hardwick Chappell
b. 24 Oct 1852 Johnson Co., AR (area is now in Logan Co.)
d. 22 Feb 1929 Lamar Co., TX
Bur. Pattonville, Lamar Co., TX
m. 6 Jan 1881 TX
TO: Emma Paralee Tudor
b. 22 Nov 1861 Decatur Co., TN
d. 26 Dec 1952 Ft. Lawson, OK
Bur. Next to her husband
GG-Grandparents: Eli (John?) Chappell
b. ca. 1810 Wake Co., NC
d. Bet 1864-67 Johnson Co. (now Logan Co.), AR
Murdered!
m. ca. 1832 in Indian Territory north of
Hickman Co., TN
TO: Annis (Last Name Unknown)
b. ca. 1815 NC
d. After 1858, Location Unknown
Supposedly, after Eli was murdered, Annis packed up the family and they
fled to Texas. I have found no records of Annis in Texas. There may have
been one child who returned to Tennessee instead of coming to Texas. One son,
Samuel W. Chappell, was married in Arkansas to a woman named Serinah and they
had a son named Edward. I have no idea what happened to Serinah and Edward. I
have seen a marriage record, showing him in Red River Co. and his wife was
Zulus A. Lacey. The marriage was performed by T. H. Skidmore (V.D.M.).
In the 1840 Tennessee census, Eli Chappell is living next door to
Ansel/Ancil Chappell in Hickman Co., a typical arrangement of a son being given some
of the farm by his father. I have no proof that Ansel is his father. Ansel
married a woman by the name of Dorcas (Chappell?) on 8 Jan 1813 in Wake Co.,
NC. I have seen her last name posted as Chappell like she was his cousin.
This is also not unusual back then. Some genies think Eli's father may be Drury
Chappell, but I have found no census records with a son at home in the right
age bracket. Ansel did have a son at home in the right age bracket for Eli in
the 1830 TN census. My concern is whether Dorcas is his mother or if Ansel
may have had an earlier marriage and the first wife might have died in
childbirth or shortly after having Eli and possibly another son. I have found nothing
to prove this either, but the ages of the other children named as Ansel's
means that either Ansel had another wife earlier or Dorcas had twins. There has
been nothing to suggest that either.
These are my points of frustration at this moment:
1. I am seeking an accounting of Eli's murder and where he's buried in Logan
Co., AR.
2. I want Annis' maiden name and anything about her that I can find out.
Some people have called her Andis (I suspect a head cold stuffing a nose of the
person answering the census taker's questions) and Audis which is probably
from the same census, just a difference of opinion as to whether it is an 'u' or
an 'n'. In the previous census, she is Annis and she is from the period of
time when a lot of the names chosen for children, if not after relatives, came
from the Bible.
3. Where did Eli and Annis marry exactly?
4. Does anyone know where the will to Ansel Chappell might be?
Or of Dorcas?
5. Who are the parents of Ansel and Dorcas?
Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you, Judi
My 5th great Grandmother was Mary Chappell born after 1704 in Charles City
County VA. She married John Tomlinson Sr. Her parents were Thomas
Chappell Jr 1650 and Elizabeth Ann Jones 1664.
I have no Chappell ancestors after Mary.
