Judi sent me a file . ( Thank you ) In the file this is listed:
4. Thomas CHAPPELL was born in ABT 1650 in Charles City County,
Virginia;died on BEF 22 Jun 1704.
He married Elizabeth JONES in 1676 in Charles City County, Virginia. They had
the following children:
+5 i. Thomas CHAPPELL
+6 ii. Robert CHAPPELL
+7 iii. Annie CHAPPELL
+8 iv. James CHAPPELL
+9 v. Samuel CHAPPELL
We see that No Mary Chappell is listed . There is no dates listed on these
children. When were they born. ? Mary wasn't mentioned in Thomas Chappell's
will, some think because she died before him. If this file is correct,
what other Chappell was living in Charles City
County VA at that time who could have had a daughter named Mary Chappell?
Are you aware of any Chappell families living around 1700 in Albemarle
Parrish, Sussex Co. VA?
Although I have no Male Chappell relatives. This family Name deserves a
Y-DNA study to fill in the holes of who is related to whom. It seems there
are a lot of unanswered questions.

Just got back from an extended vacation and saw that you have the
Chappell Family File. I would also like a copy of it, if possible. We were in
Salt Lake for some time and I did find out some things , but not all. The
CHAPPEfamily is one of my husband's auciliery families. His ancestor was Martha ,
B. C 1800 in Knox ? Co., TN, Mar James BROWN of Knox in1820. Thank you.

CHappell is one of my husband's auxiliary lines. I would like to
check the Chappell Family File against what I gathered at the LDS in Salt Lake
this summer. Can you tell me where I can find it? Is it on the web someplace?
My husband's ancestor is Martha CHAPPELL B. C. 1800 i Knox Co., TN,
Married to James BROWN C 1820 also in Knox Co., TN. Their son, Jospiah
Washington BROWN was B. 14 Sep 1821 in Knox, Mar 13 Jul 1841 to Martha WEAR in Knox.
He died 13 July 1870 in Athens, TN., and she died 18 Dec. 1860 in Athens.
I found some CHAPPELL info from farther back, but have not made the
connection with Martha as yet. Thank. Earlene Hutsell eroch25(a)aol.com
I am looking to proof---
Was there a Mary Chappell born after 1704 who was the daughter of Thomas
Chappell Jr and Elizabeth Ann Jones of Charles City County VA? If they
were not her parents, what other Chappell family could be her parents?
My direct line goes to Mary Chappell born after 1704 who married John
Tomlinson Sr. born bef. 1695
I do not have a marriage date and this information was geven to me.
I do have a list of their children.

Registering my interests as per request :
Edward CHAPPELL married Susanna GILLARD in 1815 Bath
Children :
Susanna - 1818
Robert - c1824
Henry - c1826
Louisa - c1828
Alfred Edward - c1830
William - c1832
Robert CHAPPELL married Maria ABRAHAMS in 1851 Bath
Children :
Emily Maria - 1852
Robert James - 1861
Mary Ann - 1863
Emily Maria married her first cousin (I think!) Gracious Abrahams in 1876.
He remarried in about 1879 but I have no idea what happened to Emily Maria.
Robert James married Elizabeth Philpott in 1884 and Emily Bartlett in 1902.
I am actively searching for Mary Ann.
I hope this connects to someone else's family.

Kind of following up on the Zachariah Chappell whose land grant from Warwick County, Virginia I posted last week.
First of all, thanks to Vchapp (I'm so sorry I don't have your name) for posting the information about Zachariah Sr. and Jr. I am assuming that Jr. is the one whose land grant I found. Zachariah Jr. left land in Warwick County to his "cozen" William Allen.
Since his will didn't mention children or direct descendents, I'm wondering about Samuell Chappell who also received a land grant in Warwick County. Samuell has the courtesy title "Mr." in front of his name. Don't know if that makes a difference or not, but a large number of persons had no courtesy title. His land grant/patent was issued 6 months after Zachariah's. While Zachariah's land adjoined that of Capt. John Langhorne, James Cathon, Mr. Samll. Ranshaw, Mr. Mumford and land of the heir of Edward James, Samuell's patent mentioned no other names. Zachariah's patent said his land was in Denbigh Parish, Samuell's was said to be in Harwood's Neck Reeds.
Any idea if Samuell and Zachariah hook up? Brothers, maybe?

G'day
As requested by our new admin.
My interests are in the family of Joseph Chappel of St Ewe
and St Austell in Cornwall in England. Joseph died in 1849.
Very naughty of him as he missed the very informative 1851
UK Census.
The Chapple/Chappel name appears in St Ewe where Joseph's
children were baptised circa 1815+ from as far back as the
mid 1500's but as yet I have not linked him to those
families. St Austell is near the Cornish/Devon border and
as many would be aware the Chappel(l) name is prolific in
the county of Devon. If anyone has a Joseph or Jas missing
from their Devon or Cornish lines late 1700's early 1800's
I would love to hear about it.
Remembering surnames were not set in their spelling until
the 1800's and even then poor spelling skills of church
clerks and administrators ect plus the issue of how you
heard the name pronounced depending upon accent still led
to it being spelt in various ways. So am open to any way
the surname might have been spelt.
Happy Hunting
Michael

Greetings listers
This is my last message as Admin/list owner for this list.
Thank you to all those who sent messages offering to take
over or sorry to see me go.
I am not leaving completely as I will be remaining
as a member here and will continue on as admin to
the other Rootsweb lists for Chappel and Chapple.
Our new Admin/list owner for the Chappell list is:
JULI MORGAN.
Please be kind to Juli as she learns the ropes
and gets a handle on the role which predominantly
involves duties behind the scenes.
Remember to remain on topic about family history relating
to the surname Chappell and variants and little can go
wrong here, unlike on some lists where "flaming" wars have
broken out at times as topics have drifted to other subjects
not appropriate to Rootsweb lists.
Happy Hunting all, "May the force be with you" to break down
those brick walls in your family research. "Live long and prosper"
Good Health and happiness to you and yours.

The search for Eli's parents has been going on for decades with many
false starts due to his "cousins" Eli born to other CHAPPELL families. I am now
studying Drury and Ancil CHAPPELL to see what I can find on their children.
It begins to look as if Ancil may have had another wife before the one known
for him and she could have been Eli's mother, but I have no proof to that
effect. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks and happy hunting!
Greetings,
I am an Afro-American.
My G-Grand parents were Peter and Allie/Alice Chappell of Halifax Co. Va.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Christopher Carlton a white slave holder died in 1824 (probably in King +
Queen County) Va. In his will Christopher willed to his daughter Polly
Carlton "one Negro Esther and her future increase."
Dolly died July 7, 1858, without husband, or issue.
In Jan of 1859 the increase of "one Negro Esther," the slave willed to
Polly Carlton were bought by Joel Younger from Polly's surviving siblings
and the children of Polly's dead siblings, for $1,500 dollars.
"One Negro Esther" was mentioned in the papers to establish that Joel was
purchasing the increase of Esther (I am assuming that Esther was then dead).
That sum of $1,500, bought my g-grand mother Allie and her children, Willis,
Daniel (my grandfather ), Eppa, George, and Henry.
Joel Younger had in fact had possession of Allie before he officially bought
her in 1859, because I found in "Slave Birth Records," Allie giving birth to
three of her children, in 1853, 1855, and 1858, with the owner listed as Joel
Younger.
In the 1870 Census for Halifax Co. VA, Peter Chappell aged 40y and wife Allie
aged 35 were found with the following children:
Willis 20y. George, 15y, Henry 13y, Peter (Lee) 12y, Doctor 10y, Davis 9y,
Bell 7y, Willy Ann 5y, Edward 3y, and Horace 6mo.
Daniel 19y, (my grandfather) and son of Peter & Allie, was living nearby with
his wife Sue 16y, but at that time Daniel was using the surname Younger.
In 1880 I again found Peter 50y, and Allie/Alice 50 y, with children Bell
18y, Willie 16, Doctor 20, Lee (Peter) 22y, Henry 23y, Eppy 24y, Edward
12y, Horace (Braxton) 11y, Milly 7y, and Corer 4y.
Two houses away lived Daniel (26y?) now using the surname Chappell and Sue
(30y?) were listed living with children Brack 9y, Louise 7y, Primus 6y, Lee 4y,
Gabriel 2y, and Julian 8mo.
I found Peter listed as informant in the deaths of two of his children one in
1879, the other in 1887.
Peter was found in the Personal Property Tax list till 1899, but was missing
from the 1900 tax list, so I assume he died between 1899 and 1900. Allie,
wife of Peter was missing from the 1900 Census, so I assume that she died
sometime between 1880 and 1900.
I don't know yet where Peter the hubby of Allie came from, or how they wound
up with the name Chappell. Perhaps Joel Younger, who held 35 slaves in 1860,
bought Peter from a Chappell family.
Thanks for your time,
Larry

Hi list!
Although I just hated to see Michael have to give up the list, I have volunteered (and Michael and Rootsweb have agreed to let me) to be the new CHAPPELL mailing list administrator.
This is a very smooth-running list, and I don't propose to change a thing. So everything will clock along at normal.
Just one thing I do ask....remember that you get as much out of the list as you put into it. So post, post, post. If you haven't posted the CHAPPELL line you're looking for lately, do it again so the newer subscribers will know. And if you happen across any stray CHAPPELL information (of any spelling variation of the name) post it, too.
I'm happy to be aboard, and if you have any problems, don't hesitate to contact me.

The attached is the son of Zachariah. I have some info on Zachariah 1.
Vchapp(a)aol.com
1670 abt: Zachariah Chappell, Jr. was born to Zacharia Chappell,
thought to be the son of John Chappell, Immigarant to America. The family continued
to live for several years in the Warwick-Elizabeth City area of Virginia.
1716 Jan 13: Zachariah Chappell prepared his will>
"In the name of God, Amen I Zachariah Chappell of ye Parish and
county of Elizabeth City, Being very sick and Weak in Body, but in perfect sense
and Memory, do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament in man'r
and form as followeth:
"First, I give and bequeath my soul to God Almighty that gave it,
hoping through the merits of ye birth and death and bloody passion which I
believe our Savior hath suffered for me and all mankind to enjoy Eternal Life in
the world to come; and my body to the Earth from whence it came to be decently
buryed according to the discretion of my Exd.
"Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my cozen WILLIAM ALLEN and his
heirs, all my land lying & being in ye Parish and County of Warwick.
"Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto my Cozen WILLm ALLEN my gun and
Sord and all the rest of my estate, after all my just debts and funeral
expenses are paid, and I do hereby nominate and appoint my Cozen Wm Allen two be my
hole Ex'or of this my last wil and testament, revoking all others.
"As witness my hand and seal this 13th day of January 1716-7.
(Signed) Zachariah Chappell,
(Seal)
"Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of
"John Jones, Thos. T. A. (His mark) Allen and Thos. T.
(his mark) Dewby.
Note: "Cozen" was a term usually used to designate a person removed from the
individual yet from the same ancestor. Thus, we have 'assigned' William
Allen as a nephew of Zachariah and son of Robert, his brother.
1727 June 21: Zachariah Chappell's will was proved in court.
I checked the Chappell Family File. There is no listing of a Zachariah
Chappell in it, but that does not mean that he is related as suggested. The file
is incomplete and needs to be updated, a project that I hope to eventually get
around to. Judi
I haven't found a link here. I'm quite sure he is in the Robert,
Richard, Robert....family, who also went to NC.
Hoping to connect them to Isaac Chappell of Perquimans, NC.
