Hi
I have recently discovered that Edward CHAPPELL married Susanna GILLARD in
Bath St James in 1815.
Does this ring a bell with anyone or could someone suggest how to find out
where Edward came from before that?
Kind regards
Sally

I live in Lebanon CT. The Lebanon HIstorical Society has some very good
genealogy information. Lebanon Historical Society
They are very helpful there. Lebanon even has a Chappell Road.
My Chapell line is from Waterford but none of your names match and they are
spelled differently so I am not sure if we are of the same line. There were/are
several Chappell families of various spellings still living in the area.
Can you give me more specifics and perhaps I can get a chance to get to the
historical Society for you. (They have few hours but I am a member).

Greetings,
Time to see if anyone out there will own up to being related to me.
I am an Afro-American.
I wonder if they are related to my line--all those girls names are the names
of John Williams/Molly(Mary) Chappel-and Sarah was used as a grandaughter
interchanged with Susan Ann.
Her mother was Elizabeth, and aunt was Mary. They came from N.J. Md. or Va
and came to n. Ky. before 1830. Unfortunately, I don't know Molly's father.
I know they had a son John and a son George who died as a child and another
daughter who also died as a child.

After many years of research we have contracted to publish a CD on our
findings for the Chappell family, 1600 to 2000. This is my family line, but will be
of interest to any Chappell cousins who descend through the same Thomas
Chappell, born 1602.
The CD contains articles on Colonial Virginia, Chappell Creek as well as
articles on each generation. Did you know that Thomas 1 settled on Kittawan Creek
and not Chappell Creek and that Thomas 2 was apprentised as a child? The
main body includes Wills, Estate sales records, some pension application from the
Revolutionary War and an article on the Civil war. It also includes detailed
information on Robert Chappell/Agnes Cross which Phil Chappell in his book,
failed to identify correctly.
The CD is only $25, postpaid. Don't forget your address when ordering.

Greetings,
Time to see if anyone out there will own up to being related to me.
I am an Afro-American.
My G-Grand parents were Peter and Allie/Alice Chappell of Halifax Co. Va.
Christopher Carlton a white slave holder died in 1824 (probably in King +
Queen County) Va. In his will Christopher willed to his daughter Polly
Carlton "one Negro Esther and her future increase."
Dolly died July 7, 1858, without husband, or issue.
In Jan of 1859 the increase of "one Negro Esther," the slave willed to
Polly Carlton were bought by Joel Younger from Polly's surviving siblings
and the children of Polly's dead siblings, for $1,500 dollars.
"One Negro Esther" was mentioned in the papers to establish that Joel was
purchasing the increase of Esther (I am assuming that Esther was then dead).
That sum of $1,500, bought my g-grand mother Allie and her children, Willis,
Daniel (my grandfather ), Eppa, George, and Henry.
Joel Younger had in fact had possession of Allie before he officially bought
her in 1859, because I found in "Slave Birth Records," Allie giving birth to
three of her children, in 1853, 1855, and 1858, with the owner listed as Joel
Younger.
In the 1870 Census for Halifax Co. VA, Peter aged 40y and Allie aged 35 were
found with the following children: Willis 20y. George, 15y, Henry 13y,
Peter (Lee) 12y, Doctor 10y, Davis 9y, Bell 7y, Willy Ann 5y, Edward 3y, and
Horace 6mo.
Daniel, my grandfather a son of Peter & Allie, was living nearby with his
wife Sue, and using the surname Younger.
In 1880 I again found Peter 50y, and Allie/Alice 50 y, with children Bell
18y, Willie 16, Doctor 20, Lee (Peter) 22y, Henry 23y, Eppy 24y, Edward
12y, Horace (Braxton) 11y, Milly 7y, and Corer 4y.
Other than the births of children to Allie in 1853, 1855 and 1858, and the
sale of she and her children, I found Peter listed as informant in the deaths
of two of his children one in 1879, the other in 1887. Peter was found in
the Personal Property Tax list till 1899, but was missing from the 1900 tax
list, so I assume he died between 1899 and 1900. Allie, wife of Peter was missing
from the 1900 Census, so I assume that she too was dead by 1900.
I don't know yet where Peter the hubby of Allie came from, or how they wound
up with the name Chappell. Perhaps Joel Younger, who held 35 slaves in 1860,
bought Peter from a Chappell family.
Thanks for your time,
Larry

Looking for information on an Ann Chappell who married a Joseph (Joe) Savage in the 1930's.
They may have met in the Boston, MA area or possibly Chicago.
They were divorced in 1938 in north TX (Grayson Co.), but i suspect that Ann was not living in TX. could be wrong, though.
i have a photo that is not labeled that i think may be Ann.

Does anyone have any information on Thomas Samuel Chappell - born October 10, 1847? His parents were Alexander Chappell and Eliza Bragg. He was a resident of Georgia. His older brother, Rufus, fought in the 2nd Georgia Cavalry in the Civil War, fighting in the battles around Atlanta. I would really like to know what Thomas did for a living (probably a farmer) and whether or not he fought in the Civil War. Any help would be appreciated and reciprocated. Thanks in advance.

Thank you, Mary. It seems I have ancestors on both sides of the family with the special knack of avoiding anything governmental like census takers. Drury seems to be one of them. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Judi,
Thats ok I get confused sometimes too. That was 1850 Hickman County, Tennessee. Eli was on the same page
as Ansel in 1840, Alexander and Charlotte also was on this page. This was page 194 and Drury on 210. I believe Ancel
is his father, but Dorcas may not be his mother. Are you on
the mailing list? There was a couple of informative post to the
list I can forward them if you did not see them.

Judi,
The 1810 and 1820 Wake County Census was lost. That was very unfortunate for us. I think that Drury's first wife must have died before 1830. There is an older female in his 1830 household age 70-80. Possibly she is his mother as the age is right. He has two sons at home in 1830 ages 5 -10 and
10 -15. Ancil has a 15 - 20 in his household. I believe that Ancel is more than likely his father as In 1840 Census Ansel and Eli are listed on page 194 and Drury on page 210.
This is not proof just my thoughts.
