Hi Gina,
You wrote: "Looking for my kinfolks, especially those who came to Texas."
I realize I'm responding to an old message (April 2000) but saw another recent response that was forwarded to the CHAPPELL Rootsweb mail list and the name caught my eye! I'm part of the family that stayed behind in KY and IN.
I am a descendant of Robert Wooding CHAPPELL, who was my gggg-grandfather.
My gg-grandmother was Rillar CHAPPELL, daughter of Robert Woodin(g) CHAPPELL and Harriett BIVENS, b. September 08, 1855, Hancock County, Kentucky; d. December 07, 1936, Hancock County, Kentucky. She married William Chandler SCIFRES 15 Oct 1874 in Spencer Co., IN. Their daughter,
Anna Permelia SCIFRES, married John Raymond GRIFFIN. Their daughter, Virginia Myrl GRIFFIN, married Robert A.D. FAWCETT--Robert and Virginia were my maternal grandparents.
Robert Woodin(g) CHAPPELL, b. June 03, 1816, Kentucky; d. June 07, 1885, Hancock County, Kentucky, was son of Robert Wooding CHAPPELL, Sr. and Mary TITTLE.

Yes it is my Winfield Chappell. Winfield Scott Chappell is my great great grandfather. I had a slight idea of his parentage from the Beaman books but they listed the his mother as Sarah Hall and that is part of where my hang up was so thank you very much for clearing that up! And the fact that Winfield is buried in a Partelow plot is not surprising considering his daughter Edith E. Chappell married Crawford Alexander Partelo (my great grandparents). I have had much luck with the Sherman line but have been stuck on the Chappell line. I live in Tolland County, Ct and will hopefully this summer be able to make it out to South Kingstown to visit the gravesite myself. But thank you very much for helping to clear a few thing up for me. It is much appreciated. Barb

I am related to the Rhode Island Chappell family. In reference to Winfield Scott Chappell, he is the brother of my relative, Matthew Napolean Chappell; their parents are Matthew Chappell and Sarah Weeden Hull. Winfield was born in 1842, married Mary T. Sherman, and is buried in the Partelow plot of the Riverside Cemetery in Wakefield, Rhode Island. I have seen his grave site. Winfield was born in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, and died in 1916.
Winfield was the youngest member of the family and moved to Potter's Hill, a section of Westerly, Rhode Island, which is on the Rhode Island-Connecticut border. He worked in the mills there. His half-sister, Alsada Chappell Segar, also lived at Potter's Hill.
I learned this information about Winfield Scott Chappell while searching for clues about Matthew's family. Does this sound likr your Winfield Scott Chappell?

My information is from a variety of sources. Research in Virginia, Salt Lake City and from other researchers. It has been traced by census records, wills, obituaries, death certificates, deeds and many old court records. How do you tie into the line? I have little new information on my Chappells. I know they come from South Kingstown, RI and I need to go there to find more when time allows. However, for your Unknown Chappell my suggestion is this: If you have an LDS Family History Center near you go there and ask if they have the microfilms to the Barbour Collection of CT. (A listing of births, deaths, marriages to 1850). I would look for Edwin's birth that way because if it is in the collection it likely has the name of Edwin's father. If you don't know which town in CT he is from I would contact the Connecticut State Library where the Collection is housed. Their website is http://www.cslib.org/handg.htm . I hope this will be some help to you in finding Edwin's father.

I would be interested in your CHAPPELL family information that you have found since this last posting, to which I am posting a query.
I have POLLY STUBBLEFIELD b: 1819 AL
who married c. 1840 "Unknown" CHAPPELL .
They had one child EDWIN CHAPPELL b: c. 1841 CT.
I have no information on what happened to the parents, but Edwin Chappell showed up in Gibson Co., TN, with his maternal grandmother NANCY STUBBLEFIELD to make their way to CA 1852-3, and we find him listed in the 1860 census with the rest of Nancy Stubblefield's family. I know he spent the rest of his life near her.
My search is for the name of "UNKNOWN" CHAPPELL and his parents with, siblings if any.
Any ideas or suggestion are welcome.

I would be interested in your Chappell family information.
I have Polly Stubblefield b:1819 AL m: c.1840 to Unknown
Chappell. Their only child Edwin Chappell was born c.1841 CT.
I have no information as to what happened to the parents, but
we find only Edwin Chappell in his grandmother Nancy
Stubblefield's(this family group had moved from Gibson Co., TN
in 1852-3) household in 1860 Napa Co., CA census with a baby
daughter and no wife.
Any ideas or suggestions are welcome

I would like siblings of Eli Chappell. I suspect he
was brother to my Henderson Chappell who died 1848 in
Mexican War. Eli named his son Henderson born in 1850.
Henderson (1811-1848) was in Hickman County Tn. His
widow moved to Fulton County Ky. Any other Chappell
families in Fulton Ky?
