I may very well have that info, but I cannot currently check it out because my sister has all my files at the present time, doing further checking herself. I will get them back soon and check that out. I don't believe I have any info on the first wife, but not sure. Part of the problem lies in NC. From what I can best determine, There were actually two different Chappell lines in the area. One in Surry co., another in Rockingham co. They may be connected further back, but I haven't gotten that far yet. I will get with you as soon as I have a chance to check it out.

After further research, I want to add an addendum to my message above.
I have been told that a Thomas Chappell who was born in Charles City County, VA in 1650 was the one who married Elizabeth Jones. I now question this. Elizabeth Jones was the daughter of James Jones, a neighbor to and administrator/executor of the estate of a Thomas Chappell. This closeness is shown by Prince George County court minutes in 1715 and 1717, respectively, where first James Chappell and then Samuel Chappell told the court that they were satisfied with the share that James Jones had given them from their deceased father's estate. James Jones made his will on April 6, 1719 and left a slave to his daughter "Elizabeth", yet he gave the married name of another daughter mentioned in the will. So, apparently, Elizabeth Jones had not married at this time.
The picture is fuzzied further by two more entries in the court minutes. The first, on Feb. 27, 1655/56, reads: "It is ordered that Corne and cloathing according to custom be forthw'th paid to Thomas Chappel late serv't tpo Jo richards dec'd out of the sd Decedts estate by the exo'r..". The second entry, on June 6, 1664, recorded the land patent of Anthony Wyatt for 350 acres for transporting seven persons - including Thomas "Chapple" and Elizabeth Jones.
I now question whether Thomas Taylor married Thomas Chappell's widow, Elizabeth Jones Chappell, by 1704 as I stated. It appears that Elizabeth Jones was single as late as 1719 and probably until 1725 when Taylor posted a bond ensuring Elizabeth the right to distribute property to her Chappell children that they were left by their deceased father.
I do not know what to make of all this. Can anyone tell me when (and which) Thomas Chappell married Elizabeth Jones - and when he died? Were the two individuals who came to Charles City County via Anthony Wyatt in 1664 the same persons who later married? Any help in clarifying this situation willk be appreciated. Greetings listers
You have probably noticed over the last month that list
mail can be patchy or even non existent for hours at a
time.
As mentioned previously in June/July to many of my email lists except those
I have recently taken over or started.
Rootsweb have been upgrading their hardware to handle the increasing email
traffic of 25,000+ email lists and significantly increasing data storage
space for
worldconnect, various regional databases and Freepages webpages now needed
as Rootsweb's popularity increases.
The problems you are seeing are a result of the work
they are still doing to improve our service. They promise that no mail is
being lost and although I'm not altogether sure about that, we are going to
have to trust their
assurances that it is only a hiccup. It's been a very quiet weekend on many
of the lists with almost no messages getting through and behind the scenes
there are other situations which only affect the listowners.
I think we are just going to have to be patient and in time it should all
get back to normal. For those that are unaware, Rootsweb has been going for
many years on voluntary subscription basis much coming from early List
Admins and freepages owners etc. It continues to be provided as a free
service and is now supported by the new parent company - Ancestry.com
Rootsweb in the main is, as always supported by Random
acts of Kindness by family history researchers just like yourselves with
only a few technical roles being paid positions. So when feeling frustrated,
try to remember most
of us are volunteers, giving of our time freely so many fellow researchers
can benefit.

I'm looking for the parents of Williamson Chappell (1797-1876). Williamson
was born in Montgomery County, North Carolina. He moved to Todd County,
Kentucky and in 1827 he married Patience Blake (also from North Carolina).
Is Williamson a son of Parks? Does anyone know which line Williamson
belongs to?
Thanks,
Lynda

Tim's mom. I think I may have responded before but the more I look at my papers the more name connections I have. Jason b 1809. I have a first marriage to Mary Gemraine who was the grandaughter of Silas. I do not know who he married second but that is the line of my family. He also had a brother William. And had 7 children. Mary's parents were Stephen and Hannah. Thats part of what I have on my Jason. At the bottom it has him as a Jason Sr and I can't figure because none of his kids were a Jason.

Greetings,
I am repeating a previous offer.
I have a book sent to me as a gift by a friend who found it while passing
through Halifax County, Va.
The book is titled:
"The History of the Education of Black Citizens in Halifax County:
1866-1969."
The book was written by W. C. Edwards (W. C. Edwards, served as
Principal of the school from 1934 to 1966), Preston M. Royster, and Lazarus
Bates, (Lazarus followed W. C. Edwards as Principal).
The book was published in 1979 by Bannister Press, Springfield, VA.
Library of Congress Catalog Card number 79-52829
The book was purchased at:
South Boston Historical Museum,
801 N. Main Street, South Boston, Va. 24592
Tel--- 434-572-9200.
The book has an orange soft cover, cost abt $8, + shipping, and contains 261
pages,
I called the museum 8/15/2002, and they still have copies left for sale.
I have no connection with this book---- you pays your money, and you takes
your chances. I am giving this info only because someone might be able to use
it.
The book contains some history on black education in Halifax Co. Va.
Chapter 2 in the book gives some history on the earliest black schools,
such as:
1. The Antrim Church and Mission School,
2. McKinley Institute
3. Williams Normal and Industrial Institute, aka Williams Normal and
previously known as the South Boston (VA) Institute.
4. Mizpath Elementary School.
5. The School In The Backyard.
--------
Chapter 4 mentions
1. Booker T. Washington High School 1930-1948, serving only South Boston Va.
later merged with Halifax Training School. The names of the five
Principals of Booker T. are given.
2. Halifax Training School 1920-1956, The names of the five principals are
given.
The name was changed in 1956 to Mary M. Bethune High School 1956-1969
======
There are names in the book of graduates from the all black
"Halifax Training School," later renamed "Mary M. Bethune High
School."
The years for which graduates names are printed are, 1936 through 1969.
In chapter 8 of the book are "SUCCESS STORIES," giving some history of
graduates after they left the Halifax Schools.
This book also gave names of the persons on the teaching staff,
information on the years they taught, types of certificate or degree
they held, the College/University they attended, subjects they were
authorized to teach, taught, and period of employment.
In cases where females married during the time they were teaching, their
maiden names were sometimes included.
I will do lookups of Graduates, and Staff.
In order to avoid clogging up the list for those not interested, I will not
answer requests posted to this list.
Send your request to me privately at:
Lchand3835(a)aol.com.
Larry.
