Hello All,
My family and I will be visiting Florida in August.
Does anyone know of any Florida Chappells who originated in England?
My family lived in and around Barnsley in The West Riding of Yorkshire in the north of England and I have traced a line back to Joseph Chappell born in 1794 in Barnsley.
Where would I go in Florida to do a little Family Research - City Hall, County Hall, registration Offices etc?
Thanks in anticipation.
Mel.

I can help you here. I am descended from this crowd. Thomas Armstrong and Mary Elizabeth had James Edy (my ggrandfather), Edward Anderville, Zada Lucy and Carl Maxine. All of them ended up in the Logan, Iowa area where there is still quite a few still are. My grandfather, Ernest Arlo, came to Colorado to ranch right after WWI and his family has been there since.
I have been able to trace back to Thomas and Hanna (Thomas Armstrong's parents) in RI, but can't get any further. If you have any information you can share (it sounds like you know something more than I do about Thomas A.) I would really like to share. Please contact me directly if you would like.

I am also trying to find information on my line of Chappell's from RI. I can go back to a Thomas Chappell b. 1757/1768 in N. Kingston and married to a Hanna Armstrong b. 1772 in Jamesport. Their children were Thomas Armstrong (my GGgrandfather) and Benjamin. Thomas A.left RI for Utah sometime in the mid 1800's. If anyone can provide any information on the RI side I would appreciate it.

I have a Mary Elizabeth in my background, however my records show she was a Waldrupp and married into the Chappell via Thomas Armstrong Chappell. Now I show Mary E. being born 2/11/1834 in Western Dist.,TN. Thomas A. born 12/4/1795 in Jamestown RI. The children I have listed for them is James Edy, Henry Thomas and Susanna who were all born in Utah, but at some point they all ended up Iowa. I have not found any reference to a Mary Elizabeth Chappell, but it was not unusual to name the child after the mother and that with the Iowa connection makes me think there may be some link. Thomas A. also was married to a Sarah Sally Mae Gavitt, who also ended up in Iowa. Between them they had a Lucy Marie Moriah and George Armstrong. I suspect that Thomas A. and his brother went to Utah to either pioneer or mine and began a second family there. eventually moving all to Iowa at some point.
If you have any information on your Mary Elizabeth that may establish any links please let me know.

What was the age of William. I have a picture of two very elderly Chappells - a Bill (William ) and Polly ( Paulette- Paulina) who was 96 in 1923. That puts her birth date at 1827. He looks maybe a few years younger but not much. They must have been my ggrandmother Anna Mae Chappell Blaylock's Grandparents, it does say Grandma and Grandpa Chappell on the back. Anna Mae was born in Yell Co., AR
Greetings,
two of my ancestors from Halifax County, Virginia died between the 1880 and
1900 Federal Census. They were man and wife.
The last info on the hubby was when he gave info April 8, 1887 after the
death of his son from TB.
I have checked the available State Death lists till 1896.
There was no state of Virginia requirement for recording of deaths from 1896
till 1912, so no help there.
Are there any tax records available for the period 1880 to 1900 that recorded
individual names?
Any other records available that might indicate that a person was alive on a
certain date?
Thanks for your time,
Larry

Hi, Lexi!
I am the person to whom the "R.G. Chappell" bible was sold. The only name and date in the book is the inscription on the inside cover, "R.G. Chappell from his affectionate Mother -Sept: 1900". I wish there were more names in it, too!
I feel reasonably certain that the "R.G." stands for "Redding G.". Redding G. Chappell was the father of my great-grandmother, on my father's side. Redding married a lady named Angeline Hankins. They had twelve children, one of them a son also named "R.G. Chappell". It is this son who I believe was the owner of the bible. Both of his parents were still living in 1900; his father passed in 1920, and his mother passed in 1924. R.G., Sr. lived to be 91! Angeline was quite a bit younger than he (by about 12 years).
I've found tentative links taking this Chappell line back to England, though I don't know how the bible ended up in that country; these Chappells lived in Missouri!
If you think I might have some information that would help you, please contact me!

The bible does not mention any other names or information other than the information I posted. I am not related to any Chappell's so when I picked the bible up in Canterbury, England at an antique shop, I decided to give it to a descendant. I have already been contacted by a lady and have already sent the bible to her. I'm not sure if I still have the contact information on her if you wanted to get in touch with her. I'll check this weekend. Let me know, Jessica

I am curious if the Bible mentions any other names. I have a gret granmother that I have been searching for years to find information on. My grandmother left me her memoirs, and she mentions the following.
WILLIAM2 MACKENZIE was born in ROSS-SHIRE, SCOTLAND, and died in ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND, age 88. He married JANE CHAPPELL. She was born in IRELAND.
Notes for WILLIAM MACKENZIE:
THEY HAD 4 SONS, INCLUDING ALEXANDER MACKENZIE.
>From the memoirs of Margaret Hunter Mackenzie Clark Burfoot:
My great-grandfather Mackenzie was named William (I believe), and was born in Ross-shire, Scotland, the county of the Clan Mackenzie, some time during the years 1700-1800. I know only that he became a soldier and in due course was sent to Ireland and there he met and married a well born Irish lady, Jane Chappell. Her people considered William Mackenzie was not good enough for her so they disowned her. I think she must have had a hard life going with her husband where ever he was sent. My father had several letters she had sent to her sister. I read them, but they mostly told about the high price of food in those days. My father told me that my great-grandmother's family owned valuable property in London and if they had not dis-owned her, she would have been very wealthy.
I do not know where to even look anymore, as I have really hit a brick wall with Jane.
I wonder if you may have some info.
Thank you,
Lexi
