I have just discovered the Chappell's in my line. Can someone tell me
something about the name? Is it French? Scottish? I believe mine came to
Ky. with a bunch of Irish-maybe scots-irish. Roslyn

Hi fellow Chappells,
There are still some of "us" who are lost out there. Can anyone be a part of the Joel Chappell family? He was born about 1775 in Wales, married Mary Jenkins in 1800 in Llanstephen, Glamorganshire, Wales. They had 6 children:
Robert Henry, *David, Richard, Mary, and Betsey. I don't know of any siblings of Joel or Mary.
My husband is from David"s line. We have found most of them.
We know Robert Henry married Jane Morgan and they had a son George b 15 Feb 1824 in Llanelly, Carmarthenshire, Wales.
Richard married Jane ? They had Mary, Jane and David.
We know nothing of the sisters.
Can anyone hook up with this clan?
Jeanne
I have recently been looking at the Tax Rolls for Prince Edward County,
Virginia, for various family lines that lived there. The microfilm roll,
LDS 1905691 inlcudes:
Personal Property Tax List 1782-1809
for Prince Edward County, Virginia
>From the description, it says there are alphabetical lists for each year
except 1808. So far I have been through years 1782-1791. The information I
have obtained for Robert and Jesse is as follows.
Robert
1782 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, 1 horse, 10 cattle
1783 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, 8 cattle
1784 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, 3 horses, 11 cattle
1785 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, 3 horses, 8 cattle
1786 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, 2 horses, 8 cattle
1787 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, 7 cattle
not listed after 1787
Jesse
1782 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, 1 horse, xx cattle (couldn't read)
1783 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, 1 horse, 2 cattle
1784 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, nothing else listed
1785 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, 1 horse
1786 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, 1 horse, 3 cattle
1787 - 1 wh, 0 slaves, 2 horses
not listed after 1787
The only other Chappell listed in the same county is John Chappell,, as
follows:
not listed before 1790
1790 - 0 wh (i.e. non-taxable), 2 blacks>16, 1 bl 12~16, nothing else listed
1791 - 0 wh, 2 blacks>16, 2 blacks 12~16, 1 horse
When I get through the rest of the microfilm, I will post additional
information. There are a few more things of interest on the tax rolls that
I have not posted here, more of what is not listed than what is. Feel free
to contact me by e-mail for additional details.

Greetings,
I am repeating a previous offer.
I have vols. 1 and 2 of George Calvin Waldreps
"Halifax County (Virginia) Cemeteries."
These 2 vols. contain the names and locations of over
300 cemeteries located in Halifax County Virginia.
The books contain inscriptions from gravestones found in these 300 plus
graveyards. Information containing surname, given name, date of birth, date
of death, etc., was copied from the graves
Mr. Waldrep stated in Vol. 2 that he had info on about 80 more cemeteries in
Halifax Co, that he did not get to cover, so these two books do not cover all
cemeteries in Halifax Co Va.
I will do surname lookups.
In order to not clog up this list for those not interested,
I will not answer requests posted to this list.
Please, send your requests to me at:

Thanks, Larry
