Hi! I have Chappell's in Arkansas. Elias Chappell married Polly Harris.
Birthplace and marriage place unknown. Two sons, Wiley Hansel Chappell and
Thomas Chappell married two sisters. Wiley married Roseanne Wilson and
Thomas married Ruth Wilson. Wiley and Thomas Chappell were born in Madison
County, Arkansas in 1855 and 1861 respectively. This is a new line for me
to work on, so I haven't checked out the census records yet, but if anyone
has these Chappells or know of certain lines that settled in the southern
regions, I'd appreciate the info. Thanks
Gayle Cohen
CHAPPELL (or variant) should always be capitalized & used as the
1st word of the Subject line. If a prior poster did not begin this
way please change the header to this form with CHAPPELL (or
DeLaCHAPPELLE or other spelling as the first word).
Never continue an OFF topic "thread" (or chat) on the list.

Hi Joel,
Thanks for the input, yes I have pretty much concluded that I am not of the
Chappell/Dickey clan as well. I went through the lineages in the book, and
they all seem to have stayed in New England, or gone south. I think George
Chappell's descendants are most likely where I will find my link. Did Dr.
Ora Addison Chappell publish a book about his lineage? If so, do you think
it would be helpful for me to see if the book is available at the library?
Or have you pretty much incorporated all of that lineage into your database?

Yes, I use Family Tree Maker v. 3.0 for windows. A gedcom attachment in a
compatible format would be great!

Hi Cheryl,
The book is called "A Genealogical History of the Chappell, Dickie and Other
Kindred Families" by Phil E Chappell, pub. Kansas City, MO, 1900. It can be
ordered on microfiche through the public library.
It really follows the lines of the southern Chappell branches though, and
only briefly mentions George Chappell's group, and the fact that some of his
descendants took the western route, along the great lakes states. It doesn't
get into the lineage of George's descendants at all, so it may not contain
the info you are looking for either.
I will keep your ancestor in mind, and let you know if I run across him,
Good Luck with your search,
Diana
Diana,
I'm pretty much in the same boat that you are in with my Illinois
Chappells. I have Alban (or could be Albert) Chappell, born abt 1802 in
either PA or NY. He suddenly appears in Jo Daviess County, IL records when
he married Sarah Ann Wilkinson in 1842. Alban was 25 years older than
Sarah, so I suspect she may have been a 2nd wife. They had 6 children.
They appear in the 1850 census of Jo Daviess Co., the 1860 census of
Carroll County, and then by 1870 they are in Jackson Co., IA where they
died in the 1880's.
I have no idea where he was before going to Jo Daviess County. If you ever
run across this man I'd be delighted to know about it. Also, where did you
find the book that you reviewed, and what was the name of it. Perhaps it
would say something there about my Alban Chappell.
I'll keep an eye out for your Chappells as I go through records. You never
know where we'll find a connection.

Hello Chappell Family Researchers,
I am looking for information/advice on where to go from here with my
Chappell family research. I recently ordered and reviewed the book
"Chappell, Dickie and other Kindred Families" at my local library. My
Chappell family connections where not in the book, but probable clues to my
branch were there.
My first known Chappell ancestor lived in DuPage Co., Il in the mid 1800's.
He was Andrew Chappell b.Abt 1820, and his wife Almira A Butterfield b.Abt
1824. They had a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Chappell b.July 1, 1846, in or
near Chicago, IL. She was my great great grandmother.
In the book I just reviewed it said that the descendants of George Chappell
b.1616 & his wife Margary of Wethersfield, CT moved west, and followed along
the great lakes states, which is the movement pattern in my family. It said
one branch went to Illinois, and then to Wisconsin (which is also where my
family ended up). The book also stated that descendants of George, Mr. J
Chappell Clark, and Dr. Ora A Chappell of Elgin, IL were prepairing a
publication on this branch of the family.
I would be interested if anyone is aware of this publication, also if anyone
out there has info on my family or lineage that connects back to George
Chappell b.1616 & his wife, Margery.
Any ideas/info/advice would be greatly appreciated,
Diana Goings

Robert had a son, Jesse, b abt 1763VA, who migrated to Pindleton District,

Robert may be a decendent of Thomas Chappell, immigrant 1635, but have not
made the connection.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
