Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Greetings listers
Some people are unaware how to unsubscribe or post messages.
please read your confirmation email carefully. It's clearly written
about this.
To post a message send it to:
(list name)-l(a)rootsweb.com
Do not include the (REQUEST) part which should only be used when
joining or leaving the list. Messages sent using the request part bounce
as the server thinks your requesting to join or leave the list but
incorrectly.
Also please remember to put in a subject line. Some members use
Digest mode and a subject title gives Digest users an idea of what the
message is about.
Make sure you click on the new mail icon in your email software. Not
reply from a previous message posted to the list.
If you are joining or leaving a list post as below:
To: (list name)-l-request(a)rootsweb.com
Subject: (subscribe) or (unsubscribe)
AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE.
The main cause of problems unsubscribing are people using the
incorrect address. Do not use reply from a posted message.
This may unsubscribe the message poster instead of yourself. Turn
off taglines and signature attachments. These taglines/signatures
can result in your request to unsubscribe being rejected by the server.
The second main cause of problems unsubscribing are people putting in
unnecessary information. eg please remove me from the list as I'm
going on a short holiday to Brazil for 10 days then put me back on.
This will likely result in your email address staying on the list.
Happy Hunting all

Sorry this is late.
I have just been informed officially.
Beginning Monday, 10 June 2002, RootsWeb began the complex and
time-consuming process of upgrading our servers to new hardware.
When the server serving this list is being upgraded, no mail will be
delivered to the list but instead will be 'held' and delivered when the
list is up and running again.
If you post a message and it doesn't appear, please don't send it again
or post test messages. Just wait and the system will be back as soon as
possible. I don't know when the list will be out of action or how long
it will take to deliver the mail afterwards.
Feel Free to continue posting messages just be aware that the server may
go offline and that's why your message to the list is delayed.
We just ask for your patience during the transition period when it affects
the list.
regards
Michael Cheeseman

I'm looking for information on Ona Chappell who was born in Clinton Co, MO around 1881. She married Edward Shoemaker around 1900. I believe that they moved to KS, which is most likely where she passed away, probably between 1950-1965. Any leads would be appreciated; thanks!
I am a descendant of Miles Chappell who married Priscilla Parker on 12 July
1812. Miles was also a veteran of the War of 1812. Miles and Priscilla
were my gggggrandparents. Miles was born 05 June 1790 in Amelia County,
Virginia the son of Abner Chappell and Susannah Moore Chappell, they were
the parents of 14 children. Their 7th child Catherine Chappell married
Samuel Whitson in 1840. Catherine and Samuel are my ggggrandparents.
Samuel and Catherine's 3rd child Miles Chappell Whitson born 18 June 1846
married Lishia Jane Stephenson who was born 17 January 1846. They were
married about 1868. These are my gggrandparents. Miles and Lishia's 5th
child Della Elizabeth Whitson born 09 April 1876 married James Marion Moore
born 18 December 1868. They married 02 January 1893 in Fayette County,
Alabama. These were my grandparents. Their oldest son Marion David Moore
born 14 August 1898 married Belvia Kimbrell born 01 September 1903. They
were married 02 September 1917 in Fayette County, Alabama. I am the
youngest child of Marion and Belvia. My name is Melba Dee Moore Sims and I
was born in Fayette County, Alabama.
Was John a brother of Miles Chappell? Hope to hear from you. Thanks in
advance, Melba M. Sims Email directly to msims13(a)fayette.net
