John P. Chapman
Born 26 December 1836 in DeKalb County, Tennessee, a son of Mary Chapman.
His first wife's name was, Mahala. She was born circa 1834-1835 in
Indiana. They had 4 children, all born in Missouri; Purlina, born circa
1861; John B., born circa 1866; Martha J., born circa 1869; and Irvin, born
circa 1877. He married second, Mary E. circa 1894. She was born August
1858 in West Virginia. In occupation he was a farmer and a day laborer.
He resided as follows; 1870, 1880, and 1890 Benton Township, Dallas County,
Missouri; 1900 Conway, Union Township, Laclede County, Missouri; 1910
Springfield, Greene County, Missouri; and 1920 Long Lane, Dallas County,
Missouri. He died the 5 November 1922 in Wilson Township, Dallas County,
Missouri. He was buried in the Macedonia Cemetery, South Benton Township,
Dallas County, Missouri.
Service: Enlisted into Company "F" the 20 August 1861 in Rolla, Missouri.
Rank: Private. Height: 5'9"; Hair: black; Eyes: black; Complexion: dark.
Mustered into service the 14 October 1861 at St. Louis, Missouri. He was
wounded at the Battle of Tupelo, Mississippi on the 14 July 1864. Mustered
out of service the 15 October 1864 at St. Louis, Missouri. Had earlier
served in Company "G" of the Dallas County Home Guards.
John C. Chapman
Born circa 1844-1845 in Buffalo, Dallas, County, Missouri, a son of Elias
and Mary Chapman. Not married. In occupation he was a farmer. He resided
as follows; 1850 Dallas County, Missouri; and 1860 Jackson Township, Dallas
County, Missouri. He died the 18 April 1863 in Pilot Knob, Iron County,
Missouri. His mother filed for pension on the 16 July 1883.
Service: Enlisted into company "I" the 22 February 1863 in Houston, Texas
County, Missouri. Rank: Private. Height: 5'5"; Hair: fair; Eyes: blue;
Complexion: fair. Not mustered. He died the 18 April 1863 in Pilot Knob,
Missouri f rom disease.
Edward Burton Chapman
Born 31 August, 1839 in Missouri. Mother's name; Mary. His first wife's
name was, Mary E. She was born circa 1846 in Illinois. They had 1
daughter; Nancy, born circa 1877. He married second, Deliliah Jane Hembree
the 18 January 1879 in Dallas County, Missouri. She was born the 28
September 1857 in Tennessee. They had 3 children; John, born May 1880;
Sarah, born 18 April 1889; and Jesse Asberry, born 19 April 1898. In
occupation he was a farmer and resided in Benton Township, Dallas County,
Missouri. He died the 15 February 1909 in Dallas County, Missouri. His
second wife died the 22 November 1935. Both were buried at the Macedonia
Cemetery, South Benton Township, Dallas County, Missouri.
Service: Enlisted into Company "B" the 28 February 1862 in Springfield,
Missouri. Rank: Private. No description given. Mustered into service the
3 June 1863 at Pilot Knob, Missouri. Transferred to Company "H" the 3
October 1864. Received a severe gunshot wound in the right thigh at the
Battle of Franklin, Tennessee on the 30 November 1864. Sent to hospital in
Franklin, Tennessee and then admitted to the hospital in Nashville,
Tennessee on the 12 January 1865. Transferred to Company "B" of the 21st
Missouri Volunteer Infantry on the 3 February 1865 when the 24th Missouri
was dissolved. Discharged: 2 October 1865 at St. Louis, Missouri for
disability. Had earlier served in Company "G" of the Dallas County Home
Guards.
Andrew Jackson Stafford
Born 19 August 1831 in Hardeman County, Tennessee, a son of Bird L. and
Lucy (Parker) Stafford. He married, Eliza J. Chapman. She was born in
1837 in Tennessee, a daughter of Mary Chapman. She also had two brothers
in the 24th Missouri; Edward Burton Chapman in Company "B" and John P.
Chapman in Company "F". They had 4 children, all born in Missouri;
William Francis, born circa 1855, Lucy E., born circa 1856; Lorenzo D.,
born circa 1858; and Asberry R., no date. In occupation he was a farmer.
In 1860 he resided in Jackson Township, Greene County, Missouri. He died
the 7 April 1863 in St. Louis, Missouri. His widow resided in Benton
Twonship, Dallas County, Missouri. His wife died in 1896 and was buried in
the Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo, Dallas County, Missouri.
Service: Enlisted into Company "B" the 20 August 1861 in Rolla, Missouri.
Rank: Private. Height: 5'6"; Hair: dark; Eyes: brown; Complexion: dark.
Mustered into service the 14 October 1861 in St. Louis, Missouri. He died
the 7 April 1863 in St. Louis, Missouri from meningitis. He was buried in
the Jefferson Barracks Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. Widow filed for
pension on the 11 July 1863.
