Hi, I'm new, so please forgive me if I'm doing something wrong, but I have a
great deal of information from my great aunt that I passed away many years
ago in the
genealogy section of the Waxahachie, TX library. It seems there was a great
migration of Chapmans to Ellis County, TX in the middle 1800's. Does anyone
know anything about the people listed below?
My great-great grandfather, Walter Anderson Chapman was in Crawford County,
Missouri. Don't know the exact dates, but one of his children was born there
in 1844. Walter was married to Louisa May Gray Saunders.
They had 8 children:
1. Mary Frances Chapman (Molly) b. 1835, VA, md. before 1861 MO John Adams.
2. Walter Frank Chapman, b. 1835 VA; died about 1877 Crawford County, MO.
Married Virginia Gray, perhaps a cousin, before 1860, Greene County, VA.
3. Margaret (Martha), b.1837, VA
4. Alexander Campbell Chapman, b 9-26-1842, Greene County, VA, died
10-01-1912, Ellis County, TX. Married Virginia Elmina Sanderson about
1865 in Louisiana.
5. Anderson Chapman, Jr. b. 1844, Missouri
6. John Chapman, b. 8-03-1849, Missouri; died in Crawford County. Married
before 1870 to Ellen Janette Pease.
7. Julius Chapman, born 1855, Missouri
8. Reuben Chapman, b. ca 1840, VA or MO; died during Civil War of
measles;unmarried
Of that line, my great grandfather was Alexander Campbell Chapman. He was
married to Virginia Elmina Sanderson and had 9 children:
M. Lou Chapman, C. F. Chapman, Emma L. Chapman, James Melton Chapman (my
grandfather) b. Jan. 1, 1872, Anna Lea Chapman (Stovall), A. C. Chapman, Jr.,
and Sallie E. Chapman, Everett E. Chapman and Leona M. Chapman.
If anyone has anything, PLEASE post the information. It does seem that the
name Anderson appears often.
Thanks!!!
Pam
