Subject: [CHAPMAN-L] Charles C. Chapman
Hello!
I work for the Chapman family in southern California that is responsible
for
the creation of Chapman University in Orange, California.
We are working to set up a family archives at the university, and I am
searching for genealogical information on Charles C. Chapman and his
ancestors.
In his autobiography/biography, Charles C. Chapman states that he was a
distant relative to "Johnny Appleseed" (John Chapman), but I have had no
luck
in finding the link.
Charles was the son of Sidney Smith Chapman, born in 1827 in Ashtabula
County, Ohio; grandson of Jacob Kimble Chapman, born in 1803 in New York
State; great-grandson of Isaac Chapman, born in 1765, possibly in South
Carolina; great-great grandson of John Chapman, born in 1734, possibly in
South Carolina; great-great-great grandson of Benjamin Chapman, born
somewhere
in England.
Any help in closing the link between this branch of the Chapman family and
Johnny Appleseed will be very much appreciated. I am also interested in
expanding on my research of his early forbears.
Thank-you very much!
Sally Sloane
