Folks, before anyone gets excited about the CNN thing, check out the Hoaxes
links.

This type thing spreads like wildfire, and it creates problems for the
Rootsweb servers
because of overloading. Please...before posting any virus warnings, chain
letters...anything of this sort, check with me first. Actually, I'd prefer
that you check the above link first...then check with me regarding it.
Either way, you'll learn whether the information you have is legitimate or
not.
I have copied a portion of the statement at the following link that
explains the Internet Access Charge Hoax. Go to the link, and then click
on the link that says "Internet Access Charges. That will take you to the
explanation.

Internet Access Charges
January 1999
This is a variant of the historic modem tax hoax of bygone years. This
latest version started making its rounds on Nov 06, 1998, based apparently
on a CNN story. Early versions pointed the finger at the FCC as the villian
in this story. Then it was 'the government', then it was 'the Congress'.
FCC statement:
"... the FCC has no intention of assessing per-minute charges on
Internet traffic or of making any changes in the way consumers obtain
and pay for access to the Internet."
