John Chapman (Johnny Appleseed), (b. 9-26-1774) never married. His
father was Nathaniel Chapman (b. Tewksbury, MA, 1746); mother was
Elizabeth Simons (or Simonds) of Leominster, MA. He had a sister,
Elizabeth, and a brother, Nathaniel, Jr. who died shortly after birth in
1776. Johnny's mother died of tuberculosis shortly after the death of
the baby, Nathaniel.
Johnny's father, Nathaniel, remarried....Lucy Cooley in 1780. Their
children were: Nathaniel, Abner, Perly, Lucy, Patty, Persis, Mary,
Jonathan, Davis and Sally.
The ancestors of Johnny's father, Nathaniel, were:
Edward Chapman, b. England, died Ipswich, MA, 1678,
married Mary Symonds
John Chapman, b. Ipswich, died Ipswich, 1677
married Rebecca Smith
John Chapman, Sr., b. Ipswich, 1676, died Tewksbury, 1739
married Elizabeth Davis
John Chapman, Jr., baptised Ipswich, 1714, died Tewksbury, 1760
married Martha (Perley) Boardman
(John Chapman, Jr. was the father of Nathaniel, grandfather
of Johnny Appleseed).
