I have a Chatman to Chapman transition in my family tree. My
great-grandfather went by the name of William George Chapman (b 1854 d
1916), but his brother called himself Charles Chatman (b 1851 d 1925) These
boys and their two sisters are thought to be the offspring of William George
(possibly George William) Chatman/Chapman and Sarah Davis. The children
were orphaned at a young age, but I know nothing of the circumstances of the
parents' deaths. I do know that one of the sisters was raised in a French
speaking Canadian convent and later married Elie Desaulniers. The families
that the boys were raised by lived in New Hampshire and records conflict as
to whether to boys were born in the US or Canada.
If anyone recognizes these Chatman/Chapmans, I would love to hear
from you.

I am doing some family research for a friend whose last name is CHATMAN. I
would assume that CAHTMAN was connected at one time to CHAPMAN. Any ideas
when the name would have changed?
His family has been so far traced back a few generations. Mostly from the
state of Illinois (Harold E. Chatman born in 1915 and married G. Rose Henning
of same area).
Any information welcome,
Matt Carman
