I am new to this list, but hopeful that my age-old Chapman problem can
be solved :)
Chester Chapman, b.c. 1799, prob. Hartland, Hartford Co. CT. He married
Sally Bushnell in 1819 and they lived in Tolland, Hampden Co., Mass.
Since so many Chapmans married into the Bushnell family in Saybrook, I
figured my Chester would be an easy one to follow back to Saybrook; many
folks from there moved up to Hartland. But no luck.
He is NOT the Chester Chapman b.c. 1798 in Ellington, CT. Believe me, I
hoped so, too!
I have been through the Rev. Chapman book and Xeroxed every plausible
"dead end," of which there are many. Coincidentally, I discovered that a
Caleb Chapman moved to Hartland in time to be Chester's father; he would
appear to be the Caleb b. in the 1760s and lived in Glastonbury. Rev.
Chapman lists him with three wives, one of whom, Rhoda Collyer Chapman,
died in Hartland.
Any clues/suggestions/whatever? He is NOT in Barbour :(; the Ellington
Chester is. I guess another avenue to work on is that his real first
name was not Chester; that that was a middle name.
Thanks in advance
