Looking for information on John and Mary Chapman of Isle of Wight county
in Virginia. May have gone to Georgia during the Revolutionary War.
Ancestors were Charles Chapman (d. 1710) John Chapman (d. 1736).
Charles was the Clerk of County Court in Isle of Wight from 1696 til his
death. I am looking to establish link to Benjamin Chapman, one of the
earliest residents in Decatur County Georgia. He was married to Susanna
Phoebe Hart ( some kin to Nancy Hart). Any assist will be appreciated.
I can possibly reciprocate with some info. I live quite close to Isle
of Wight and have already got some information on the Chapmans there.
Thanks, Mike Connolly >>
As best I know, Benjamin Chapman, husband of Susanna Phoebe Hart, was a child
of the John Chapman who died about 1803 in Abbeville District, South Carolina.
John, whose wife may have been Mary Thompson, was a child of Nathan Chapman,
whose will was proved 21 May 1772 in Halifax County, Virginia. There is no
proof that the Hart line of Susanna Phoebe Hart and that of the Nancy Hart are
the same.
How are you related? Are you working up from Benjamin or down from Charles?
