My CHAPMAN line research has a big gap between
London and Los Angeles. Richard Henry Hay Chapman
lived in Manitoba, Canada for a few years around
1900. Next, he was supposed to be in New York City, but
I have no data. A marriage to my grandmother, a LORIMER
in Indianapolis, Indiana, and a year later my dad Victor
ROWLEY HAY CHAPMAN was born in Los Angeles, CA. They and
subsequent family members remained in California for the
rest of their lives.
But when they came from London I have no idea.
I do have their birthplaces and genealogy trail
back from 1850s, but the late 1800's is a mystery. Another
mystery is how all the past 3 generations have a HAY in our
surnames. There is no intermarriage with any Hays???? But the
name became hyphenated HAY-CHAPMAN in the time of my gr,gr grandfather
and all of my cousins and I were Christened with that surname.
So I add my puzzle to the CHAPMAN mix and if anyone had any
Chapman's in Winnepeg or Manitoba, I'd appreciate hearing.
(There was a Max CHAPMAN living there too).
