Looking for information on family of James and Hannah CHAPMAN. I know of
one son, George (W?), b. 11 Nov 1842, Scarborough, Yorkshire, England, d. 6
Feb 1885, DuBois, Washington Co, IL, m. Harriett (Hattie) Jane LYNN (b. 2
Sep 1848 in WI) 14 Jan 1867 in Sherman, Sheboygan Co, WI.
George and Hattie had one son, William Lynn CHAPMAN, b. in Racine, WI, and 5
more children b. in DuBois, IL. According to family oral history, George
CHAPMAN was a ship builder (as was his father in England) in Sheboygan Co,
WI, who c. 1870 suddenly decided to quit the business and move south. While
in WI, he supposedly worked with a brother who went to CA when George and
Hattie moved to IL.
Does anyone have information on the brother? Or the family in England? I
have information on George and Hattie's descendants in IL that I can share.
