To whom it may conern:
In researching my Chapmans, (Gerard, Chester, and Orlando circa 1800 in the
Montreal/Ottawa area), I came across a Chapman family who I thought was
related to my line, but I now realize this is not true.
In any case, for anyone who might be interested, this is what I discovered:
Thomas Chapman, (1752 - 1827) was born in England, enlisted in London, and
"served honestly and faithfully in the 31st Regiment for fifteen years" in
the Revolutionary War of America (presumably against the Americans). He
married Sarah Williams (1755 - 1830) and both are buried in the Church of
England Cemetary at St. Andrew's East d'Argenteuil, in the province of
Quebec (Lower Canada).
Their children were (at least) (a) Henry (1783 - 1855), a farmer who married
Amable Gauthier (1793 - c.1868) in 1813. On the basis of his and his
father's military service, he applied for, and received a land grant near
Chatham & St Andrew's East, Quebec; and (b)James, (a stone mason) who
married Elenor Spink in 1825.
Henry's children: a)Henry Jr, born 1814, married Agnes Beaton in 1836
b) Simon Willaim, born 1816
c) William George, married Harriet Iassie, in 1843
d) Georg W. born 1820
e) John Edward, married Amelia Eliz.Coursolles,1849
f) Sarah Ann, born 1824
g) John, born 1826
h) Alexander, born 1828.
James's children a) Euphemia, born 1826
b) Charles, born 1828
c) Elenor (or Helen), born 1829.
I have a list of some of the children of the next generation, but this is
probably enough to identify this line.
