CHAPMAN names mentioned: Joseph P., Oliver, F.C. & V.B.? (The V.B. is #4, in
question on the handwriting.) ... I have in my possession, a hand written
letter dated March 14, 1857, BUT this is in reference to 40 years earlier.
I purchased this prior to knowing what line I should follow with the CHAPMAN
line in my genealogy research, as it was "buy it now or always wonder" (and
I'm still wondering!). The summary of this three page letter, as best as I
can make out in this old style writing is that it is a "Manuscript Letter"
(so I've been told by the Antiquarian Seller) & it's written on medium blue,
lined paper. On the back of the last page, is written "Letter of James
Lanman to F.C. CHAPMAN 1858 - V.B. CHAPMAN". The letter is to F.C. Chapman
about a Land Warrant for Joseph P. Chapman, 25th Regiment, U.S. Infantry.
They are searching for legalities of the matter with a Land Warrant for 1818
& it gives some details - some of which I'm still trying to decipher. So
far, it appears that Joseph P is a brother to Oliver. This letter was
written in "Norwich", but I'm SURE it's not where the CHAPMAN brother
that
the letter was sent to, lived. ... I'm making some color copies on the
entire contents. If anyone would like a copies, including copies of my
deciphering notes, contact me OFF the LIST. ...Donna dstfelix(a)erinet.com
